Might as well send Zavvi an email and see if they'll apply the 12% code since the order is brand new. They likely won't do it, but it can't really hurt to ask I don't think |

Does anybody know why August Ragone didn't do an introduction for, "Gamera The Brave?" His other intros look like they were all recorded on the same day, so I'm guessing it's not because of COVID.

Amazon US currently has one used copy of the Gamera set listed for $107.54 with "Moderate cosmetic damage on item case." It's sold by Amazon Warehouse so it lists free shipping.

Well, I promised an update with my order from Rarewaves, if anybody's interested.
Following a tip from this very thread, I placed an order for this set on or about Aug. 26 with Rarewaves, which is located in the UK. (Paid $155.99, plus $6.69 for overseas shipping; not a great price, but the thing was sold out practically everywhere else.) I didn't get a tracking number with the email confirming that my order had shipped; but yesterday I emailed asking for it, and received the number this morning. So now I know that my order is currently in the hands of the USPS, in Glendale Heights, IL. Since I live in Florida, I think I can expect it in about ...a week, maybe? But I feel better knowing that my Gamera set is at least in the US. Last edited by dcmatthews; 09-10-2020 at 03:25 PM. Reason: Glendale Heights, not just Glendale |

Yeah, I've been in the same boat of expecting a shipment from Grindhouse that should arrive by Saturday and still having an order from Amazon UK that's been standing still for about 2 weeks now. I don't intend to cancel the latter until I have the GHV order in my hands and see everything is in there (not that I distrust GHV as I haven't issue with them for the past 2 years of visiting or ordering from them, but just the reports of how some people in this thread have been receiving their items from other vendors) and if it turns out that suddenly my Amz order is dispatched prior to that point, my game plan is just to resell it on ebay for the exact price that I paid for the Amazon order rather than some scalper bullshit.

My order from Grindhouse Video came in today. It looks to be in great condition to me.
My only complaint about the set is that arrow went with the book binding to house the discs. This type of binding doesn’t usually bother me and I haven’t had a problem in the past. But this time the adhesive that holds the book together leaked out onto disc 4, making Gamera vs Zigra unplayable. Luckily I was able to clean it off using goo gone. It plays now, but I won’t be putting it back in the book. |

Long time lurker, but a long time supporter of the site. This collection has been my white whale...err turtle, lol. Every time I see someone in the thread mention a new lead on where to grab a copy, I head over there only to find I've missed out....again. So yes please, if you do end up with a 2nd copy, I will be more than happy to pay you what you put into it, plus a little extra for your troubles. Just let me know. Thanks. Quote:
I pre-ordered mine on Amazon and they didn't come through, thinking this shouldn't be an issue to get and it's been a massive pain to track down and apparently every time I don't come here to check on an update is when there's another lead and I miss out yet again. So I appreciate any and all help I can get to track down a copy. |

---- Saw Iris and Brave. Iris is a very good film. The dynamics of the monsters and who was/is connected to them. Great production quality all around. I know that "4" isn't legit but goddamn did I want to see what this Gamera could end up doing. Great ending though. Man, Heisei Gamera is a badass. Kaiju takes an ass kicking but make it through somehow. Now... Brave. It's not a bad film. It's just a huge dip in filmmaking compared to the previous Gamera. The direction alone stood out to me to how high quality Kaneko was in comparison to Tasaki. Ditto for the script. I like the overall ideas of Brave but feel that actors aren't that good or the script is really simplified. Maybe both? The Kaiju were fine, again the shots compared to the Heisei Gamera series are rather simple. They don't look as real. Either way, I did enjoy Toto. I thought he was a good Gamera. Overall, I think the script and/or the actors really knock it down a bit. I don't mind that this was more for kids but it did lack power. It almost felt it dumbed itself down a good bit. Which I don't think any film should. Kids can handle drama, just make it compelling. |

I started watching my set today with Gamera and Gammera. Even though there wasn't a whole lot of newly produced extras they did a pretty nice job sourcing up some archival material that hasn't been released in the US before.
Even though "Gamera Special" is mainly just trailers and SPX scenes from the movies (making it a pretty redundant viewing) there is a segment in the second half with footage from a kaiju suit workshop where they're putting on a actual Gamera suit (and some Ultraman monsters make a appearance too). It's pretty neat (filled with turtle meat) since there isn't really a whole lot of footage of the actual suits being made. There was a cool feature on Tokyo Shock's DVD of Varan where they re-made the Varan suit. |

This set is beautiful in almost every way...except the fact that the discs are in the dreaded cardboard sleeves...Guaranteed to get scratches on a blu ray. I took the discs out one time to insert them into hanger sleeves and a few of them got tiny scratches from the cardboard. Why do companies do this?
