I'll try to get clarification. Anyway, here's his response...

"Thank you for your email! For a variety of reasons, we decided to make a custom clear plastic case that is much more durable than the original Blu-ray packaging, which you may have seen with THE SEVENTH SEAL and THE WAGES OF FEAR. Going forward, most of our Blu-ray releases will be packaged in this new custom case. We understand our customers' desire for uniform packaging, and we are planning to offer the custom plastic case for all Blu-ray titles. We'll announce this on our site, but please feel free to check back in a couple of weeks."
That sounds like there will be replacements, because it says they're planning to OFFER the plastic cases for ALL blu-ray titles.

Hopefully they do, I hate The Last Emperor case. On DVD I like when the do the cardboard ones but the Blu-Ray versions are just incredibly awkward. If they would have kept the style they use for DVD's it would be fine but they didn't.

Repulsion, For All Mankind, The Seventh Seal, & Last Year at Marienbad added to Amazon's $19.99 sale.

Maybe we will get Kagemusha & Playtime next

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a bunch of Criterions, what I think are the pick of the bunch:

Bottle Rocket
The Third Man
The Last Metro
The Wages of Fear
The Seventh Seal
The Man who fell to Earth
The 400 Blows
For All Mankind

I am not a Criterion groupie, but they do have the best pick of some quality titles. My question is, are any of the currently released Blu's in their library "not that great"?

As far as Transfer.... I'd say "No" as far as the film itself.... that's up to the person viewing them I guess.

I got a great deal on Repulsion, like many others did, for the Barnes and Nobles sale....... now... if Playtime, Kagemusha, Monterey Pop, or any other Pre-order I have drops in price..... it would certainly make me happy!

They're mostly very good, even if there's a couple of films there that I think that are overrated.

However, I highly recommend that you order Last Year at Marienbad. Personally, I consider it one of the top 5 films of all time. If you like the movies you listed, you should like this one very much.

If you live in Europe, there's not much that much difference in price.
I normally have to pay about 32$ (shipping incl.) for a Criterion title and about 26,5$ for a now reduced title at Amazon.
I'd only save about 1$ when ordering at Barnes and Nobles, except with Repulsion, which Axelmusic shipped 3 weeks prior the release date and the offer of Barnes and Nobles just came up too late for me.

Btw. I wanted to thank you for the answer about the Criterion titles that I'm still missing in my collection... I think I'll just have to order all of them except Bottle Rocket

Well... I just received "For All Mankind" in the mail.

I can just tell that I'm changing my mind about the "Cardboard" vs. "Plastic" cases.... This is the fourth I've received in the slip-cover-free, clear plastic (Seventh Seal, Wages of Fear, and In the Realm being the others) and when I look at the other ones, they have inserts popping out of the top, look completely non-uniform.... although the titles I currently have in the clear plastic All have predominantly Black/Grey/White covers.... so if The Last Metro, or Marienbad were in these, it may look significantly different (given Marienbad's brilliant white cover)

Who knows

I didn't even care about cases, and now that I know I have 10 that don't match (one being Ben Buttons though) may drive me crazy..... I'm pretty sure the other 6 on pre-order are all Clear Plastic..... one can hope.

How does it work with the amazon pre-order. I oredered Repulsion when it was 26.99 and For all Mankind when it was 19.99 on the same order.

For All Mankind shipped and was 19.99 and now Repulsion has gone down to 19.99 and my order still says 26.99.

Im sure you have seen the same thing so I was just wondering how this works.

Thanks

They are supposed to email you, and tell you that you've just saved $6.99 etc... but if they haven't..... I would contact customer service, and see what's going on with their Pre-Order price guarantee ....

Checked mine just a little bit ago, and it hasn't yet, but it will. With the gold box discount thown in, I guess I won't bother with B&N after all.

It will be reflected before your order is shipped. Whenever price drops occur through Amazon, I never receive my e-mails until after my item(s) has shipped. You'll just driver yourself crazy, I think, constantly checking to see if your pre-order price has dropped. It's still over week before "Repulsion" is even released, so there's plenty of time for Amazon to make the notation under your account.

So what do you think?

Will Criterion eventually release all 500+ movies onto Blu-ray?? That's ALOT of movies to release...

Just ordered my first Criterion Blu-rays via the Barnes and Noble sale:
The Man Who Fell to Earth
The 400 Blows
In the Realm of the Senses
The Third Man
The Seventh Seal

All titles currently released seem interesting to me, so I just picked a couple. My Blu-ray player isn't region free yet, but that will happen soon enough. Hopefully before these titles arrive. Criterion is a very good reason to convert your region B player .
