Now NAD vs Emo, if the speakers are still hungry with the NAD how would the Emo's fair?
well you could try the Anthem Statement A5 or the Anthem MCA50

Youu could also call Anthem and ask them what might recommend. Emotiva is a nice amp, but I have heard it has a little bit of a forward/bright sound. Anthem like NAD should be more musical.

Today I stopped by a local dealer and listened to the monitor series. WOW! I am impressed. These speakers are so articulate with detail. The klipsch speakers next to them sounded terrible in comparison.

I hope to pick up some Monitor 7s by the end of the year. The store has a great plan where you can return any speaker for full value towards a more expensive speaker within a year as many times as you want. So I might do that and work my way up.

Are there any online stores you can buy the Monitor series at ? The store was selling the 7s for 399$ each. Does that sound about right or can you get them cheaper? I noticed some used on ebay for great prices as well.

paradigm doesnt sell online the monitor line is really popular around here. im not sure about retail on the 7s, i know that they 380$ each before the price increase on paradigms products. Sooo 400$ each doesnt seem like a
great deal, try to work out a lower price with your dealer.

Thanks. On Ebay and around on the web I keep seeing Paradigm speakers with v.3 or v.6 in the name. Is this relating to how old the speaker is? Can anyone explain?

yes, that reffers to the version of the speaker. there usally 2-3 years between each? with each version the speaker has tweaks/improvements to parts and imo better looks. the monitor line is currently up to its 6th version.

Well that explains why these v.2 on ebay are so cheap they must be near 10 years old by now. Still, for such old speakers they seem to hold a good value.

I too heard the Monitor 11s today and the Studio 60s. They are nice speakers, and certianly better then Klipsch, but I would suggest that you also look at PSB or Energy or Monitor Audio, Focal and Totem so that you can compare them to other speakers so you know exactly what you like the best. That may be Paradigm, but you will have a better basis from which to make your decision.

$400 is the list price, I am pretty sure you could get them for about $650-700 esp. if you add the center then you may be able to get a better discount.

Yes I have had my eye on ED, Energy, and Monitor Audio BR series but it's hard to listen to many of these around my city. I found a location that is a dealer for Energy and BW so I plan on calling them today. Problem is most stores in this area that even deal these brands are not show room stores they just do installs, etc as a big package so I have been in the process of calling around.

Is it fair to say that the Energy CF30/50 or Monitor Audio BR5/6 is comparable to Paradigm? It looks like I can get a pair of CF30 or BR5 cheaper than the Paradigm but might have trouble auditioning them. Considering the ultimate audition will be in my room I don't mind trying speakers that I can order online/direct as long as I can return them without taking a big hit.

Kind of depends on which line of Paradigm speakers you're comparing them to. IMO, there's a huge difference between Monitor -> Studio.

The CF line does compete with the Monitors, they have a different sound so it will be about preference. the BR5/6 with the Monitor7/9 and the RX6 with the monitor 11, but I think the RX6 is a better speaker, and can compete inbetween the M11s and Studios. So I guess I would fcall the MA RX6 and the Energy RC-30 as both gapers, falling between the 2 paradigm lines.

When listening to the M11 yesterday, I felt the mid-range was about the same as my C-300s, there were parts that just couldn't get the fast piano play through quick enough, the Studio 60s and B&W 804S both did a much better job, but they are more expensive too. The M11s did have a deeper sound, but with 2 woofers and 1 mid-woofer vs my single mid/woofer it should. The Monitor 7s vs my C-300s were very closely related. The studio 60s didn't have as deep of bass as the 11s, but they were close, the 60s bass was tighter tho, they were more coherent, and better detail. To me the Energys seemed closer to neutral when I got home and relistened to them.

I think you should really consider PSB also. A great speaker company with a very intelligent engineer, Paul Barton. I think the PSB Image line, Energy Connoisuers, Paradigm Monitors are the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima of mid-fi audio. It will just come down to personal prefference.

After seeing my post get deleted....I find that a tad ridiculous. Gatamolo isn't happy with his performance and it is sounding more and more like he should got a different route with his speakers. So suggesting getting rid of the speakers isn't out of line. As others have said that they might not be the right speakers for him and to audition. Try out an emotiva amp first though. They are reasonably priced and if they don't sound good with them than you still have the amp for whatever future speakers you get. DLS has emo amps paired up with his paradigms and loves them.

Looks like the mod is sensitive to paradigms and paradigms only. I guess suggesting other speakers is tabboo...although I don't know why we got singled out??? We aren't the first ones to suggest it.

He was curious about bringing out the best sound of his PARADIGM speakers, and you suggested replacing his speakers would be a good start....in the PARADIGM thread.

Thread crapping at it's best.

Demo as many speakers as you can. That is the best advice. Try them with as many components as you can. Create your budget first on what you could spend and go from there.
