If they kept TCU out last year because they didn't play a conference championship then Oklahoma shouldn't get in. They kept TCU out because the Big 12 declared co-champions, not because they didn't play a championship game. The reason people kept talking about the "championship game" is because the only reason a co-champ was possible is because they didn't have one.

EDIT: Ignoring that, Oklahoma has a better strength of record, a much better game control, and the best FPI in the country. If the committee really looks at those things like they claim to, Stanford has no argument over Oklahoma.

That's not going to happen. I think the top 4 teams is pretty clear cut.

And the playoff field is set, Clemson vs Oklahoma, Alabama vs MSU

Quote:
The College Football Playoff is officially set.

Clemson is the No. 1 seed after running through its schedule undefeated, which included a win against North Carolina in the ACC title game on Saturday night. It will play No. 4 Oklahoma, which won the Big 12 title last week, but was dropped a spot because it didn’t play on championship weekend. Those two teams will meet in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 31.

The No. 2 seed is Alabama, which dominated Florida in SEC title game. It will face No. 3 Michigan State, which used a long fourth-quarter drive to win the Big Ten title against Iowa and move from out of the playoff to one of the coveted top four. Those two teams will meet in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on Dec. 31.

It should be 8 teams, but I do think the committee got it right this season.

Only if it rewards conference champions.

Seeded by record for the top 4 conference champions, then record for the last 4.

ACC
Big 10
Big 12
Pac
SEC
Top ranked other conference champ
2 wildcards, but max 1 per conference (so Iowa or Ohio State, not both)

16 with the championship game the weekend before the Super Bowl, and big 12 should be forced to have a championship game, and force schools like byu Norte dame etc into conferences

Obviously all the Power Five champions should get automatic bids, but I think for the wildcards it shouldn't matter about conference affiliation. Just take the best remaining three teams.

The problem is that it ends up leaning in the favor of the bottom heavy leagues like the SEC and Big 10 who frequently end up with 2-3 1 loss teams.

I would just want the best three teams in there for the wildcards.

South Carolina hired Will Muschamp as it's head coach after Rich Rodriguez turned the job down. Muschamp went 28-21 at Florida and 17-15 in the SEC, with a 10-13 record his final 2 years. He was the first Florida coach to lose to an FCS team. His major problem at Florida was his offense, so naturally he's hired the offensive coordinator from his final season at Florida as the OC at South Carolina. That offense was 12th in the SEC in total offense.

I'm surprised that Rich Rod turned SC down.

Why? Everyone turned them down except the guy that had no other job offers. Even their pitiful fan base knows this hire sucks. Great job USuCk!

I don't know if South Carolina's AD thought the job was great or what, but if I was an SC fan I would have much rather had a successful coach from a lower conference like Matt Campbell, who left Toledo for Iowa State or Dino Babers, who left Bowling Green for Syracuse than a retread who was fired from his last job in the same conference.
