Back on topic. Looking at these screencaps of The Thin Red Line on the dvd beaver review. HOLY CRAP! You can literally see every texture on the parrot's feathers! This has got to be THE blu-ray release of the year so far. Simply incredible what Criterion has done here.

If this has been posted, my apologies. It looks like Fincher's The Game is getting the Criterion treatment: http://chud.com/articles/articles/25...AME/Page1.html

EDIT: Nevermind. Beat me too it.

Rubber Soul was also a huge influence on Pet Sounds. Those guys inspired each other and produced terrific music in the 60's.

Getting back on topic: I was hoping Del Toro would find a copy of Ran on Blu-ray in the Criterion storage room

Yeah...I had heard that as well...

Don't get me wrong (this is for CG )...I have a love and respect for both bands. The Beatles had Lennon and McCartney, but the Beach Boys had Brian Wilson. I was initially more of a Beatles fan...but developed more of a liking and respect for the work of Brian Wilson later in my life.

The more I see him on other BD supplements (Blade Runner and recently North by Northwest), the more respect I have for Del Toro.

I think an excellent criteria for great music is that "your parents listened to it and so do you!" Both can be said about the aforementioned bands and it's testament to the timelessness of their music.

As for Del Toro: I love when directors of today show their knowledge of and affection for those that came before them. Usually these directors also make great films!

Oh and you'll all get a kick out of this. I tried posting on the Criterion Forums and said that the screencaps on The Thin Red Line blu-ray looked amazing, and my post was DISAPPROVED for "not contributing to the discussion". WOW....

Lord, I just hope you can find a "mint" copy, PP. Otherwise, you'll never get a chance to own it.

Haha you remember me well.. yes if I have to drive to every store to get a mint copy as long as I get one I'll be happy.

Breathless and Leopard I had really good luck on. Although this could very well end up on store shelves at Best Buy early as usual if they stock it.

I never saw or collected any of the A. K. films on DVD cause I knew I couldn't keep up on DVD with his films.. so I told myself on BLU / HD I will purchase them as them are released.

They will likely carry far more copies of this title too.

any deals on the current batch of movies out. the random jump from 24 to 30 on criterion blus at amazon 6 months ago killed my purchasing.

i stocked up when criterion had their 25% coupon and when barnes and nobles had their sale.

30 bucks a movie is steep, but i really dont want to wait 6 months for a deep discount/barnes and noble sale to happen again
