Agreed.

The packaging Best Buy used for the Steelbook is aggravating. I can barely get the discs out.

Not just Fields, but every character is more nuanced. Raimi's version was very cookie-cutter when it came to characterizations.

Just spent TEN MINUTES trying to get this slipcover off. I've never seen anything like it. It's created a vacuum seal or something.

Anyone else encounter that? I noticed the Blu case is particularly fat on this one.

This is ridiculous, I'm about to just rip this slip off and tear it into 20 pieces.

Thank God my 3D slipcover was not like this.

Even Sandman in Spider-Man 3 was more interesting then this guy. Hopefully they do better with part 2. This wasn't a bad movie, it was just disposable, nothing really memorable or of note.
I agree. I still can't believe the amount of people who think this one is so superior to Raimi's. This version tries to be something it's not, whereas the original knew it was a comic book movie and thats what it was. I never read a spiderman comic book that looked and felt like this.

I still bought it because it's spider-man, and I hope it grows on me. I really want to like it. But unfortunately they spent 3/4 of the movie on Gwen/Peter, and nothing much was even happening between them.

Great comment. I agree. I enjoyed TAS much more than I thought I was going to. I see arguments for both versions, but I prefer TAS.

Walmart's bonus dvd: enter the lizard, approximately 20 mins, seems like Walmart only has 2D (4-disc) version.
that's it...
On the packaging walmart advertises this as a bluray. Is the Enter the Lizard documentary in HD on a bluray or SD on dvd?

I doubt you read very many then, no offense. This one is way closer to the comics than the previous films, despite being generally more realistic.

It being way closer is questionable, in fact I'd agree with you that it's closer, but the way part is what I'd challenge. Just semantic bullshit though, I admit it. It certainly doesn't just borrow from the source material and do its own thing. At least for following and referencing the comics throughout, I appreciated that. Raimi's films aren't too far off-base at their roots though. The overall cartoony feel of his trilogy was more in line with the comics, but this one was much better from a mechanical stand point (web-shooters, and other scientific dynamics).

In my opinion, everyone here is entitled to theirs opinions, and they certainly have shared them, but I'd argue that the two compliment each other. The campy (2002) and the progressive (2012). People are being hard on this movie away from our little inner circle, and Raimi's have obviously gotten their fair share of hate. I just think they're so different, yet I love them both for opposing reasons.

Has anyone else experienced an audio glitch in the final scene of the movie? I just watched it for the first time tonight and there was a very pronounced, fluctuating popping sound right as
[Show spoiler]Spider-Man is zipping around the construction site and "sling-shots" himself out of those yellow bars. Right as he shoots out and the music swells, it gets pretty glitchy for a second or two.

I'm worried that I have a faulty disc, so I'm gonna go to Best Buy tomorrow and exchange it for another one, but am curious if anyone else has experienced this?

None taken.

Abit of my personal collection, and I've also read some Ultimate Spiderman. I haven't read any of the recent runs though.
[Show spoiler]

I'm not denying that some of the characterization is close to the comics, but the look and feel of it was way off in my opinion.

I stand corrected. Just finished reading this beautiful omnibus, myself:

I guess the authenticity difference is not so clear cut that only one opinion is possible. Raimi's films certainly look more like the old comics, as they're bright and deliberately cartoony.

But modern Spidey comics, including Ultimate Spider-Man, are much more serious in tone while also including humor from Spidey's quips. A serious, believable tone and humor that doesn't involve Peter Parker getting hit in the face with a football or knocked over by random passers-by (despite his Spider sense and superhuman speed) can only be found in ASM, not Raimi's movies. Also, ASM's special effects for Spidey himself and the fights are clearly more dynamic and closer to the 90's-and-later comics.

Thanks for your understanding. I thought it was obvious that Aunt May knew b/c Spider-man and The Lizard's fight was all over the news, which she was watching while waiting for Peter Parker to go home. Since Peter didn't have a history of fighting until recently, his drastic change of behavior had to have been more than just the usual "teen angst".

Plus ASM didn't have Mighty Morphin' Power Goblin. So it automatically wins as the superior film.

People want to complain about the Lizard, but we were teased by Dylan Baker in two films and he definitely trumps the physical design of the Goblin in SM (2002). Still though, Willem Dafoe? Come on. That guy overacted like a mother****er in those movies and I still loved him. Not many actors can pull that off. But Rhys Ifans was great.

The Green Goblin has always sucked. It's a lose-lose situation with that character.

With that said, The Amazing Spider-Man was better than Spider-Man 3, but that's not saying much.

Liked:

Peter's parents being brought up. An important part of Spider-Man's lore that was ignored in Raimi's trilogy.

Andrew Garfield was a better Spider-Man.

Loved how Flash got OWNED by Parker. Much better than the silly hallway scene in the original.

The guy that played Dr. Connors was better than Dylan Baker.

Peter beating up those gang members.

The wrestling ring as a nod to the scene with Bone Saw in the original.

The first person view as Spider-Man. Especially the web swing into the window reflection to reveal the suit. Fantastic!

Loved the dinner table conversation with Peter and Gwen's father. That was intense!

The Spider-Man Vs. Lizard fight scenes

Lizard wearing the lab coat.

The police mowing down The Lizard Michael Myers style. I wouldn't have minded if he died like that!

The rain scene. Reminded me of Daredevil.

[Show spoiler]The Man In The Shadows. If its not Norman Osbourne, its got to be Mysterio. I didn't notice he had a fedora hat with him until now.

Disliked:

Couldn't take Martin Sheen and Sally Field seriously. They overshadow their roles.

Andrew Garfield sucks as Peter Parker.

The way Uncle Ben's fate was handled.

Not a fan of the modified Spider-Man outfit.

I like Emma Stone, but as Gwen Stacy, she reminded me too much of Hilary Duff.

Mechanical webshooters being brought back. The organic webshooters were better.

The slow-motion effect was overused. It was cool the first time then it got annoying.

Hated the Lizard's design. I know its based on the original version, but I prefer the dinosaur look. Snout and all.

Dr. Connors talking to himself. Shameful rip-off of Green Goblin.

How Lizard find out Spider-Man was Peter Parker was lame!

Wounded Spider-Man near the end was complete filler.

I don't know what's up with everyone's copy of TASM with the slipcover. A lot of people have been saying how it's almost impossible to take off. I stopped at BB tonight and checked a few and all the slips came off easily.

I'll admit that the Aunt May in Raimi's films was a little too hammy at times, but by God, Sally Field's Aunt May was sleepwalking through this film. She would have a worried look on her face from time to time (like when Peter came home with bruises and cuts), but generally she looked like she had just taken too many downers, even pre-Uncle Ben dying. And yes I understand subtle acting, and I know that for the most part they were trying to avoid the Operatic style of Raimi, but if you're going the subtle route, make it compelling. The first hour of this movie was watching two teens making googly eyes at each other (and why Gwen actually likes Peter is a big ?????). Say what you will about the Raimi films, but at least we got a sense of why Peter and Mary Jane were in love, this was like watching a Summer's Eve commercial. And Garfield's Parker might be prettier....but he plays Parker like Rain Man, with some bizzare speech pattern that I can only assume is a combination of his being British (???) and trying to make the character "Shy."

As for your comment about Gwen and Peter, Gwen had a different social status than Peter and Peter knew. He didn't think someone like Gwen could be into him, thus the build-up of the relationship.
