Best leader since Walt. People actually like and respect who they're working for.

A lot of people were suspicious of him because he was picked by Eisner to be his successor and Eisner was close to him when Iger ran ABC, which struggled. People loyal to Eisner heavily criticized him for mending the rift with Pixar and acquiring the company for $7 billion. There's a lot of that Disney/Pixar rivalry in several divisions to this day.

People also underestimated Iger. Back in 2013 there was Bloomberg Businessweek article detailing the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney and the writer admitted that the magazine had been one of the ones to underestimate Iger.

He was widely underestimated at the time—including by this magazine, which described him as a “bland, scripted CEO” whom no one would call “a big strategic thinker.”

Such was the pessimism around Disney in those days.

Yeah, I don't think too many people back then, thought that Disney would be having this much of a turnaround of fortune in such a relatively short amount of time.

In my opinion ever since Disney acquired Pixar, the Disney Animated Studios movies have gotten progressively better while the Pixar movies seemed to get progressively worse (though Inside and Out was pretty good). IMO Pixar has not made a great movie since Toy Story 3.

Tell me something Ernest, when Disney acquired Pixar did they poach a lot of the creative talent from Pixar for their own in-house studio? Just judging from the films both studios have produced since then, it would sure seem like it.

It's not so much who they acqiured, it's who and what they got rid of. John Lasseter cleaned house, removed some layers of corporate beauracracy and established a new culture. By doing so, he awoke a sleeping giant. It didn't happen overnight. On Lasseter's first day, he had the entire animation wing gather, and announced, "If you don't know how to draw, you don't belong in this building." It was a clear shot at the layers of executive oversight that had accumulated under Eisner. The animators loved it, others realized they had just lost their jobs.

I see. So you explained how DAS has gotten better. But why did Pixar seemingly degress after the Disney acquisition, at least from the high standard they had previously set? I don't think Pixar has done anything extremely good or great since Toy Story 3 and while many feel like Inside Out is a return to form, I personally think it was just OK and a bit overrated. The Good Dinosaur, at least from what I've seen of it so far, doesn't exactly "twirl my beanie" either.

In your opinion, HAS Disney buying Pixar had a negative effect on the studio? I wonder what the general attitude is at Pixar towards Disney and if they are happy/unhappy being under the Disney umbrella.

Note: Sorry for going off topic. Ernest feel free to IM me if you want to answer or continue this discussion. Thanks!

I don't know if she said anything in interviews but I don't pick up on "hate" from reading the books, they're more about telling the story from a grunt's eye view and in such tales the higher-ups rarely get looked upon with fondness. A Jedi becomes a key character in later books so it's not a case of AJAB, it's more the organisation itself and their outmoded ways that come in for flak.

Cut to Disney wanting Colin Trevorrow for Episode IX.

(Though Safety Not Guaranteed wasn't so bad.)

But there wasn't really time travel in Safety. Sort of but in the end, not really.

no, no, no, no, no, no, no

Time travel can be interesting but most movies also do a very poor job using it. You have enough mystical stuff in these movies without adding time travel. Besides, after JJ's last time travel franchise movie, I hate to see what he would do to Star Wars.

One scene only, but lasting 10-12 minutes or so. Apparently.

Extensive promotions for The Force Awakens will begin in full gear on October 16th. Theaters have received words that they will get the posters, standees, and any related promotional items on that date. That's already only 2 months away from release date, I don't think they're delaying the full theatrical trailer any longer than that so we should get it just before or on that date. The TV spots should already be all over in November.

And we'll have Disney/Spielberg's Bridge of Spies on that date too.

What is the point of spending on advertising for a new Star Wars movie? There are people who don't know that there is a new Star Wars movie?

To not advertise at all would be idiotic. Plus there's always those dim bulbs who never pay attention to what's out until they're in line for tickets.
