Zero in the same time frame, but I'm not dead yet.

Not yet, still in my to "watch soon" stack. It's a big stack.

Joking aside, are you disappointed in the show? Even if you are, FWWM and the new series are very different. It’s not to everyone’s taste. I know I couldn’t possibly sit on such a great show for such a long time. Especially in full HD ion Blu-ray.

I greatly enjoyed the original Twin Peaks saga. I will resume when the stars align and I am in the mood to return to it. I have MANY interests.

Shutter Island, 2010. Was skeptical about blu ray at first. Was bored and bought a player and then shutter island from moviestop for $29. Took it home and watched it and it blew me away.couldnt believe how much better the picture was

Donster I am not the best person to ask as I don't own any of the lower cost players. I do have a Sony UBP-X800 but it is used mainly for the streaming apps. Sony has replaced it with the UBP-X800M2, I would check with owners in the thread here.

Philips (here), Magnavox (here) and LG (here) make lower cost players but I don't know anything about them. I may not have this right but I believe Walmart sells some (all?) of these players, Best Buy has several (here) and includes the Sony UBP-X700.

Samsung, I would not buy no matter how cheap. It uses DNR that can not be turned off and it does not have discrete power On and Off IR codes. The IR codes are important if you use or plan to use macros in a good programmable remote.

Yep, I thought the quality was a world apart from DVD. There were some muppets claiming they couldn’t tell a difference online at the time.

Two I always avoided were Samsung and Amstrad (or Fidelity as they were sometimes known in relation to DVD players. )

I am not 100% sure, but I think the first BD we watched was Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy via the Netflix rental. I know we loved how beautiful it looked. I cannot remember what our first BD was or streaming experience was though. The one thing I do know is how much I wanted to ditch cable by the time we bought our second flatscreen though. Closest I got was no box, basic cable.

The closest I came to an issue was X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Toy Story of Terror not porting over to VUDU and Prime when MA first started. It quickly got sorted out. So I think the UV shut down has been a bit smoother for most. Unfortunately it is the squeaky wheels that always seem to get the most traction.

Yeah, I’ll either go with another Sony or upgrade my Xbox console once I’m ready. As much as I love my Samsung KS8000, I’ve not had as much success with their BD players. I think I tried both LG and them in the past, but our Sony’s have been the best. Unfortunately the One can get a bit finicky about a discs slight imperfections. So I hooked up the extra one here in the front room for the family to use.

[QUOTE=The_Donster;16731904]So, what is your opinion on the best “affordable” UHD player Wendell? I’ve had a couple of Sony BDP-BX510 and my Xbox One(not S or X) as my BD players, but have gotten some pushback when considering a standalone player that cost the same as a new game console. Plus, I’m a little apprehensive to pick up a new player giving I can’t create a solid viewing area in our house. Hell, my barely used Onkyo HT-S5300 is in its box in the hall closet going to waste.[/QUOTE

Sony UBP X800 for the lower end. Last time I checked, I think it was around £250. No Dolby Vision though, you have to pay for that. It’s a solid little player and unlike the Xbox imo, it will upscale great.
I know you mentioned Sony, but I would have recommended it anyway.

If you can wait a year, it might be worth seeing what the PS5 or new Xbox can do. If you are a gamer, it’s not really a gamble.

The best player high end is the Pioneer, it’s a fantastic unit with Dolby Vision capability and solid build. I own one. You can’t go wrong with Pioneer.

My KS8000 doesn’t do Dolby Vision, so that’s not really a factor for me Steedeel, but I appreciate the feedback. I’m in no way in any hurry. My One and Sony get the job done. I’ll get more serious once a few things are ironed out on the home front. By that time, something new will have hit and I’ll be back to square one. I just knew Wendell is tech savvy and was curious what his thoughts were.

Yeah, I would just wait in that case. My plan was to have the 4K Pioneer and the PS5 IF it plays back UHD discs as a back up. Rightly or wrongly, I like to have a console as a spare to take the strain off the main player slightly.

So I will end up with

Pioneer as main UHD playback

PS5 as backup (depending on confirmation of expected disc playback)

PS4 with PSVR to ensure I can continue to enjoy 3D playback for some years.

That’s my position.

Another flyry drive-by telling us what we already know.

"However, while the high street struggles, Amazon’s sales are booming."

Someone wake me if there's any actual new news to report.
