Criterion will need to provide at least 2 versions of the film (as Eureka has). The VoL track is AFAIK timed to a 24 fps version, but the original Dreyer version runs at 20fps (comparable effect achieved on the Eureka blu-ray by adding frames) and will need either a different score or a re-timed / freshly conducted performance of VoL.

I received my Vampyr and Rebecca blu-rays from deep discount today in a box. They were both in pristine shape. This Vampyr set is beautiful and the Rebecca blu-ray is stunning.

I'm really looking forward to the Night of the Living Dead and now The Passion of Joan of Arc blu-rays.

None of these need to be upgraded.

Is anyone else being prepared for the upcoming November Barnes and Noble sale?

It's that time again.

I've got my list sorted out.

The Essential Jacques Demy.
Martin Scorsese Presents: The World Cinema Project Vol. 1 & 2.
Hopscotch. And-
Terry Gilliam's Brazil.

Bring it on.

I have the 100 Years of Olympic Films set on pre-order with Amazon for December 5, which means I'll be picking up fewer than usual in the B&N sale.

My shortlist is:

Elevator to the Gallows (DVD)
Rebecca
Othello
Barry Lyndon

The last title is released on October 17. If the Criterion flash sale happens on or after that date, I'll buy direct. And then convince myself I have the self-discipline not to go shopping in November.

I just viewed Ugetsu on Blu Ray, and I never in my life thought I would see that film so clearly. Xbox 1 S upconverted to a Sony 65 inch 4k. There's some scenes he could do that pop off the screen like a black and white Supernatural out of body psychedelic experience. Kenji was something else. Cant wa I to watch The Last Crysantheum and Sansho again but with upconverted blu rays. Watching 97 Insomnia now on Criterion. Fun

Le Samouraï screenshots are up on DVDBeaver, and they look great.

This is what I was hoping to see. A transfer that resembles that on the Criterion DVD, except with a lot more detail.

I'll know for sure when I watch it in motion, but thanks for doing us right, Criterion!

Smart people stay away from Facebook, which means the average Facebook user is slightly dumber than the world at large.

I do tend to avoid Facebook, etc... I was at Janus' website, and decided to click all of their social media links at the same time to check out any new info, and I spotted that post. The comments had me questioning if this was real life.

There's a 2K (or 4K, depending on what you read) restoration of Elevator to the Gallows. I'd wait for that to hit blu over buying the DVD.

No qualms about picking up the DVD, although fair point. I posted a few weeks ago that I've been waiting for the advertised Artificial Eye Region B release, which has never materialised (although as a fellow member here replied, it is also supposed to be part of a box set out in the UK next week).

that is pure gold.

I'm light years ahead of my time, I guess, cause I axed Facebook like 5 years ago seeing it for the rubbish it is.

reminded me of what Jimmy Stewart said about the colorized version of It's a Wonderful Life. (be sure to read it in your head hearing Jimmy Stewart's voice)

"I tried to look at the colorized version, but I had to switch it off—it made me feel sick."

I have way too many films I want in November, so I'm going to try and get 4-5 during the flash sale. It will just be The Philadelphia Story for me on Amazon which I have on pre-order.

Shortly before Orson Welles died in 1985, as in the day before he died, he said, of colorization, "You keep Ted Turner and his goddamned crayons away from my movie!!!"

For the first time in five years I am planning to give it a miss - I got whalloped nearly £50 in taxes last time (first time that's happened), and a CD Japan parcel this week also got first time taxes for me, so I reckon my card is now marked. Plus the poor exchange rate for Sterling means titles average £17 delivered instead of £12. Still, it was glorious while it lasted...

Luckily for me, Criterion UK to the rescue! And WowHD are "allowing" me to order again, with most titles around £18.

The biggest conundrum I have these days is: do I import Ghost World from Wow or hope for a UK release

Oh YEAH I'm geared up! NOV criterion for me will be a bit smaller- I hauled a lot in July- and I ordered Rebecca straight away because it's Hitchcock!

This time I have
Mildred Pierce
Philadelphia Story

and possibly Night and the City- I have to re watch it and give it a fair shot- I love Gene Tierney and am giving it another chance!!!

You know, not really. I used to really look forward to these sales but my interest/excitement levels have really tapered off over the past several rounds.

Admittedly, a big part of that is simply me being a cheap bastard and responding negatively to their increasingly draconian coupon policies with respect to these specific sales.

But beyond that, the whole 'sport' aspect of tracking down the very best deals and maneuvering to land the very best prices has lost some of its luster. That used to be a hobby within a hobby but not so much anymore.

Nowadays I look at Criterion flash sales and think eh, a straight fifty percent + loyalty points is good enough.
