Kick-Heart is awesome. Like all of the other stuff by Yuasa. They need to put his epic Kemonozume on Blu-ray. They can add Mind Game and Kaiba while they are at it too.

I guess with so much BD product available, cancelling an item isn't that big of deal, for me at least, anymore.
Just curious did you have the dvd of this? I'd be interested to also hear your thoughts on a direct comparison.
WTK on a different forum said he was going to take some DVD comparison screenshots within a couple days unless someone else did first. I'll link to them here whenever he does.

Thank you very much! It will be interesting to see the comparison between the two.
A shame WTK doesn't post here anymore! He is a wealth of anime information!

I have not seen the series before, so I will be coming to this with no real comparison except other anime BDs and the old Golgo 13 which I saw a little of. Waited among time for this to come out on BD to see it. Hope it's not too bad.

This. The little time I did browse here before his departure, seems he would have announcements within seconds of being official.

I actually joined Mania Forums to browse his posts.

Thanks for those who copy-paste his announcements here and save me time.

WTK posted the DVD shots though I took his shots and resampled them to 1920x1080.

BD | DVD
01 | 01
02 | 02

06 | 06
07 | 07
08 | 08
09 | 09

The DVD looks like crap too. The difference is minimal but I think the BD looks a bit cleaner because of the higher bitrate. If you don't own it, get the BD at least for lossless audio. Probably not worth upgrading from DVD to though unless it's cheap.

It appears that it doesn't have the usual high motion artifacts that Sentai's previous interlaced BDs have had. That's good at least.

EDIT: I've seen mention that it also looked bad when it was fansubbed. The show was produced in standard definition and I think this BD is likely the best it will ever look.

I've only seen about 9 episodes of Clannad. It's okay, but seems kind of overrated in my opinion (and I'm a big comedy/romance/slice-of-life fan). Maybe I will get into it once I see more episodes. I like Eden Of The East, haven't seen the movies yet though. I possibly might check out Gunslinger Girl and I'm going to watch Garden Of Words soon.

Same, though I only own the first season and haven't finished it. I remember being kinda sleepy when
I started it, so I'll probably give it another shot when I'm in the mood and can pay more attention. lol

NTV suddenly replaced its Friday evening airing of X-Men Origins: Wolverine with Porco Rosso, with less than a week's notice. The switch comes after Studio Ghibli announced on Sunday that studio founder and Porco Rosso director Hayao Miyazaki is retiring from making feature films. Miyazaki himself will hold a press conference on Friday to explain his reasons for retiring. NTV producer Toshiharu Tanio noted that both Porco Rosso and Miyazaki's last feature film, The Wind Rises, depict characters who are passionate about airplanes in the 1920s.

NHK reported on the fans who have been renting Miyazaki's works since his surprise announcement, particularly in one store in Tokyo's Shibuya ward. Miyazaki's works have already been popular in rental stores; the nationwide chain of that Shibuya store reported that it rented out his works over 22.55 million times in the 30 years between 1983 and August of this year — making Miyazaki the most popular director in rentals.

The Wind Rises just completed its seventh straight weekend at the top of the Japanese box office. According to its distributor TOHO, it sold 7,148,485 tickets for 8,848,006,850 yen (about US$88.78 million) from July 20 to this past Sunday. This past weekend's box office receipts were 5.5% higher than the previous weekend's. While Sports Hochi reports that the film was already certain to surpass the 10-billion-yen (US$100 million) box office take of 2010's Toy Story 3, it is possible that it will top 15 billion yen (US$150 million) like Miyazaki's last film, Ponyo.

You will need to see everything, including the second season (After Story) to understand why people love it so much. It's worth your time.

Thank you so much for all the info!
That was going to be my next question, was it originally produced in SD?
I always hate to use the term: This is probably the best it's going to look. But I think that might apply here.
While I no longer have the dvds, I think I'll still just sit tight on this as I don't see it going out of print anytime soon. Hopefully Amazon drops their price. I was locked in at $90.99 before I cancelled my order. I'd fell a little more comfortable at the $70 price range.
Please pass on my thanks to WTK for taking the time to line up some screen shots. I, pretty much, owe a large portion of my Anime collection to that guy and the information he's provided over the year...in addition to the good folkd of this thread!

Given the probable rush on all things Miyazaki over the next few days (even weeks?) I bit the bullet and just ordered the Grave of the Fireflies & Totoro double feature set from Amazon.co.jp.

Stick with it through the end of the first season. If you aren't touched by Clannad at that point, seek counseling. I strongly recommend the Japanese dub over the English dub for Clannad. After Story is really its own thing and one of the more divisive seasons in anime history.

That Sentai Filmworks' slate of releases are going to devastate my wallet.

Good to see the caps. Was hoping it'd look better, but oh well. BTW, it can definitely be had in the 70s, I preordered from RightStuf during a sale and locked it in at $77. At least it's not worse than the DVDs, and I've never seen it before so hopefully it will be worth it.
