I got ex rental copies of the DVDs but yeah just pirate or WATCH IT ON NETFLIX legally in HD instead of paying $200 or so to some fake scammer.

Piracy and bootlegs are against the rules here so any future comments about it will be reported. Doesn't matter how justified you think it is to buy it. There are plenty of other places I am sure you can go to talk about that crap but here is not one of them.

Now excuse me while I ride off into the sunset on my High Horse.

I'm not so sure about that. The reason I say this is because when I just now pulled out my copy of the "01 Test Type" DVD (which was basically a demo disc of the Renewal version of the 1st episode, but sold at retail) from March 2003, the leaflet it contained spelled out the release dates of the full box set, the eight individual TV series volumes, and Revival of Evangelion by itself well in advance.
  • 3/26/03: Test Type 01
  • 6/25/03: Box set (Vol. 1-8 + "The Feature Film" + an exclusive 11th bonus disc)
  • 7/24/03: Volumes 1-2
  • 8/27/03: Volumes 3-4
  • 9/26/03: Volumes 5-6
  • 10/22/03: Volumes 7-8
  • 11/27/03: "The Feature Film" (i.e. Revival of Evangelion, which consists of Death[True]² + The End of Evangelion)
Conversely, in this instance King Records decided to put out all of their "Standard Edition" releases on the same day, which would imply that's all that will be released under that particular banner. Not only that, but while King Records' website has deleted the old 2003 DVD singles of the TV series from their listings, they still have the 2003 "The Feature Film" release listed (but not the later 2007 "DTS Collector's Edition" version).

Based on the publicly-available information I've gathered it's almost certain that there won't be a new DVD single of the films (presumably since the existing one from 2003 is adequate), and it seems rather unlikely that there will be any BD single either. It makes sense from the point of view of King Records and their accountants though, as why would they repackage Disc #8 of the BD box set by itself as a single-disc Revival of Evangelion BD release for ¥6050 (i.e. the same price as their Rebuild films' BD releases) when they can get ¥18000 by forcing prospective buyers to get the entire box set instead?

Gotta say, I really don't care for the Rebuild films. 1.11 was good but I suspect that's because it was mostly a remake of the first few episodes, 2.22 was so-so and 3.33 wasn't any good at all.

I don't like Mari either, what purpose does she serve? She's got no backstory and has such little screen time that she's got no chance to have character development between 2.22 and 3.33. The entire time skip was crap. Why was there no explanation for what happened between the two films? Why is Misato so mean to Shinji? It felt out of character for Misato to be that cold/hard on him. Kaworu was handled a lot better in the manga, which is the case for the series as a whole imo. Even Asuka's character feels very watered down compared to her character in the series.

The films lack any charm and intrigue that the original series has. It took me a bit to get into the original, but once it hit, I loved it. Rebuilds are just 100% "meh", nothing good to say about them aside from the animation looking gorgeous. After watching the series and Rebuild films, I can safely say that the manga is my favorite way to experience Evangelion. I'm nearly done with reading the manga and it fees like the optimal way to take everything in.

Agree with you about 1.11. I actually liked 2.22 a lot. 3.33 though, I had no idea what was going on.

IMO it's impossible to properly judge 3.33 until the fourth film comes out.

I saw a couple episodes of the original series back in the 90's, but really have only experienced this story through the rebuild films. I will watch the full series if it ever becomes available to me. But Shinji's whining might really get on my nervs in a prolonged tv series depending on how prominent and constant it is.

I do not have Netflix. If I ever get it, then I will watch 'Violet Evergarden' and then check out 'Evangelion'.

Yes, I know.

I watch content through the following means:
-cinema
-blu-ray
-Microsoft Movies individual digital rentals/purchases

It's just how I roll for now.

At some point I may get Netflix, watch the few things on it that interest me, and then cancel it. But not now.

I like the manga waaay more than any other way to view/experience the series. The anime feels like an abridged version of the manga. The manga has so much more time to flesh things out. Shinji is a better character in it too, for example...

The manga run finished long after the series so of course it has more time to flesh stuff out. I'm in the camp that the Rebuild movies take place after End of Eva which makes things make much more sense, which is why characters act much different to each other.
