Just.. Wow CG, well played.
It might be Fear and Loathing but that polka dot tie gives it an 80's feel. So Wall Street is in play. Though both would suck, being they both just came out on blu-ray and the only reason for them now is to put the "C" brand on it, which I don't like. Takes away time and a spine for a movie that hasn't had a blu release that came out this year. Oh well.

Are they implying that this film will be coming to bd soon also?
Well, it doesn't necessarily imply a blu-ray release, but it is good indication that Criterion will release it at some point in the future. Masters of Cinema released it years ago, so it's about time Criterion actually got around to it.

what's funny is I actually have the MoC release, but I had totally forgotten about it.
that's what happens I guess when you obsessively collect dvds for years.
Hopefully it will come to Criterion blu-ray.

It's not "Wall Street." "Wall Street" has already been released on blu-ray in the US. Twice. The last re-release (Wall Street: Insider Trading Edition) came out less than a month ago on September 7th.

If I had to guess, I would imagine it's for "Night of the Iguana" (or possibly "Naked Lunch"). I'd be really surprised if Universal licensed out "Fear and Loathing" for a Criterion blu-ray rerelease.

The guy who designed the poster/cover art for House was working on the poster/cover art for Kuroneko not too long ago (I posted about it in this thread).

I watched the MoC release back when it came out, and it didn't do much for me, but neither did Onibaba (from the same director).

Fear and Loathing also seems unlikely to me. I believe that film is pretty popular. Then again maybe it just seems popular to me since many of my friends are stoners who love the film.

I'm not a HUGE fan of Fear and Loathing, but a HUGE fan of fellow Louisville-born Hunter S. Thompson.

I would much rather see Where the Buffalo Roam. Maybe Criterion can get that and bring back the entire Neil Young score and original soundtrack, which includes Dylan, Young, the Four Tops, CCR, and Hendrix.

Universal's release of Fear and Loathing was a total disaster, like almost every one of their catalog titles. Stripped of all supplements and a half assed transfer. It wouldn't be from Criterion just to get a spine, it would be returning to the only company it belongs with, proper transfer and supplements included.

is Universal still dealing w/Criterion? if so, then it's Fear&Loathing...

it can't be any of the other suggestions.

I think it's pretty much Fear and Loathing. We can move on thinking so. Now I wonder how far into 2011 this will be announced. Maybe they worked out a length period in between the 2 releases. The blu release was in Feb, so I can see a year length where Criterion would announce it for Feb or March.

I could get behind a Criterion release if it got a proper transfer. It's far from a favourite, but I'd like to have it, but not looking like the Universal disc.

This would be my wish list for 2011 on Blu-ray

Beauty and the Beast
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Alexander Nevsky
Ivan the Terrible, Part I & Part II
Les Vacances de M. Hulot
In the Mood for Love
Solaris
Tokyo Story
Robinson Crusoe on Mars
Fanfan la Tulipe

and all remaining films of Akira Kurosawa

They should considering their reluctance to release catalog titles. Heck, we have exactly ONE Hitchcock from them on blu-ray.

When did Criterion release their huge "speculation drawing" with all of the titles we were to se in 2010? Basically, when can we expect one for 2011 if they do it again?

Thanks!

After the speculation, and sounds like confirmation on Universal's The Game. I would not be surprised that Fear and Loathing may have been part of that licensing deal. Are there any other more modern (1980+) films that Universal has rights too that are already in the CC? These may also be released on BD also as part of a deal too?
