I used amazon, but I also had a voucher code (I honestly forget where from - it was back in July!).

Like I said, if you didn't choose the pre-paid customs option then there's a strong chance you're gonna get ****ed for a customs fee at this end. And I may be wrong on this, but amazon don't usually take into account discount codes/vouchers etc when they put the price on the customs declaration, and because this is used by HMRC to determine how much the customs fee is, you may end up paying a few quid more.

Or it might sneak through unscathed and you'll have a badass boxset for a very nice price!!

I don't understand why people use Amazon to bring items to the UK. There are websites that pay the import duties for you.

Yeah, but for a price. You got to bear in mind that some people don't mind chancing it, not least if the amazon price is so good that even if you get a customs fee it still works out cheaper than the 'no customs' prices elsewhere. (Which I've done several times before, and had the good fortune to avoid getting hit by a fee anyway.)

And others simply may not be aware that Mr Taxman will want his slice if the value of the goods is over £15.

True, very true in fact but the import taxes can be pretty high.

Still works out cheaper in a lot of cases, even paying the fees upfront.

Most import sites are ripping the piss, these days.

True dat. You only have to look at the insane amounts that Movietyme are charging for plain old catalogue releases, let alone the big multi-disc 3D packs. People pay it though, either because they're still assuming that customs-friendly places work out cheaper (which hasn't been the case for a while), or they just want it two weeks before everyone else.

That said, it's kinda ironic that MT's Avengers briefcase price (£130) is comparable to amazon's once you factor in the latter's pre-paid customs fee...

Ha, I wish! There was a time when you could get lucky with customs, but now that luck has run out. I import quite a bit (mostly movie posters), and I get hit
almost every single time now. I might upgrade my shipping on amazon - discount voucher still applies though!
