For what its worth, I thought changing the Kingpin into a black man was equally frustrating. Despite being a big fan of the late Michael Clark Duncan. Lets not forget that another lesser villain, The Rose, is Kingpin's child.


Nick Fury was a surprise, until I read the comic rebooted him. Then I appreciated the consistency, and was then very pleased they made him look like Samuel Jackson in the comics.

While I was hesitant at first over Johnny Storm's casting, the more I read other online articles about it and the arguments regarding the casting choices, the more I started agreeing with the writers of these articles.

I'd be far less annoyed if they made Johnny AND Sue black. While still rewriting the characters a bit, that would at least be consistent and would be less of a deviation than making them adopted and having to rewrite backgrounds to match the casting.

I can understand holding out on showing an official pic or movie still until post production is done, but what about a simple logo?

Also when you have a classic tale filled with an all-white cast, like this one, it no longer really seems current or reflective of America today. It makes sense, and is a good idea, to bring some diversity into it.

That's all well and good, unless its done arbitrarily. You don't go around changing things like that, just for their own sake...and the silence from all involved is only furthering politically-correct suspicions.

Now there is a common sense limit. If something is set in the past for example, it should reflect the racial diversity and situations of that time, not today (Doctor Who messes this up a lot). Also if the show/movie/book is in the same continuity then you shouldn't just randomly change a character's race out of nowhere, that's lame (Doctor Who is threatening to mess this up a lot).

This is a new adaptation though, set in modern times. Diversity is good for it. Reaction to that should never be fear. Diversity is a beautiful thing, and America was built to be diverse. It's all good.

It depends on the reasons for the diversity, according to each separate issue.

okay, I feel I need to point this out -- I know I've been on one side of this argument as opposed to the other, but really, this is not just about Michael B. Jordan, a black actor cast in the role of a preestablished white character... this is about all the other things that Josh Trank is doing that deviate greatly from the source material. We're only looking at the first most obvious thing, but there's certainly more wrong going on with this film that just looks to be a cash-in on the Fantastic Four name.

If you think white British people, white Dutch people, white German people, white Croatian people, white Swedish people, and white French people are all the same (regardless of nationality) all because they are "white", then you seriously need to read up on European history, cultures, and nationalities.

Better yet, go spend some time visiting and living in a few of those places yourself and learn for yourself how diverse different these "white" cultures are. Saying they are "all the same" or can be lumped into some kind of "majority" is a comment that is as prejudiced and ignorant as saying that all of the people from African countries are the same, or that people from Asian countries are all the same.
