If the update file is something huge like 5-10 GB then I could understand being upset to find out it just started from launch. Most update files are less then 500 MB & take EST 5 min to download depending on your internet speed. The "Check Update" feature (added in a few software updates ago) is helpful. If every single title you have installed finds an update then you need to ![]() I currently have around 200 games installed & have not run into the problem you're describing on a daily basis. Don't forget the PS4 now has 3 Rest Mode options so yeah there is a point to keeping it around otherwise no Suspend/Resume or Power to USB ports. |

I seem to be having more issues with 2.51 than I did with 2.50. I haven't had as many of the 3 beeps when shutting down (yet) but the What's New area fails to load more often and when it gets in this state, the activity for games and even the library won't load stuff properly. It doesn't really hang since I can leave it there for 10 minutes or so and it will usually eventually load (at least once or twice before it stops working completely). Also, most of the 3 beeps I get seem to occur when I try to do something like restart or shutdown when I get tired of waiting for whatever network activity was going on but taking forever. It's like it can't kill whatever is going on properly when it is in that state. I frequently end up in that state when trying to play DriveClub and accessing the leaderboards so it seems like to me that something isn't being cleaned up properly or handled correctly when it is being killed (aborted). Basically, it is a lot like the store issue I've always had, it's just more prevalent throughout the rest of the system now.

Hmm, while cleaning out the Library to clean up space, I tried some of the games I hadn't touched in quite a while to see if I wanted to keep them installed or not. To my surprise, some of the ones that hadn't been accessed in a while needed to be updated. So, I may be seeing what you've seen at least in some form anyway. It keeps my active ones up-to-date but now I'm wondering if there is some limit or condition. I would try changing the UI back to the original way with everything showing on one line to see if that changes anything but the list is just too unwieldy now. Oh, I guess it could also just be that it didn't work for a couple of games (i.e. more of game related issue...edit: actually, that's doubtful since one of them was The Playroom). Edit 2: There were actually a lot of them in the Library that I hadn't accessed in a while that needed to be updated.

Little things like loading What's New "on its own" without you having to press triangle button. Most recent, "friends who play this game".. Well they now randomly disappear & come back. I now have to link my YouTube with Sony from time to time to upload. Apparently this service gets Un-linked with Sony because they want offline access. When you call it a night, exactly what are you doing to power down the PS4? Nevermind the stuff I wrote down below how I do it. Have you ever noticed a Silver + Red light on the console in any state wether on, off, rest..?? This is what I do when shutting down, - Exit Game or App via PS Button. - Press Options on Game or App & select Close Application. - Hold PS Button for 2 seconds. - Enter Rest Mode - No Beeps. I hear a verification disc cycle check though before color changes to Orange when a disc is left inside. |

I booted up from Suspend & got the "added to downloads" notification. Went to check the download & saw it was 90% complete. The timing of when the update was sent out & you booting up the console.. Well there Ya go.. ![]() |

Note: I don't have any of these issues when I first boot the PS4. It is only after it has been used for a while gaming or whatever. That is part of the reason I think there's a cleanup type problem in their code. Before the 2.5x updates:
Note: I don't have any of these problems when I first boot the PS4, except, since 2.5x and when using the suspend mode, the What's New usually displays a message saying "Can't load" so I have to refresh it to get it to display. If I don't use the suspend mode, everything is fine when I first boot the PS4. After the 2.5x updates:
I shut the PS4 down as follows: Return to the main menu of the game, press PS button to close the game, press PS button to enter rest mode or power off depending on which way I want to do it. If I use the suspend mode, I just press the PS button while still in the game and choose enter rest mode. Edit: Also, except for the store issue which has been pretty constant for me since the PS4 was released, most of the other issues don't happen all the time although they're happening more frequently since 2.5x. I had the store idle long enough to time out. What happens there is when you leave items in your cart & browse other items for long periods of time, the system would wipe your cart empty or even boot you out completely. I think that's fixed. I have been getting more lag from the PS Store because Sony has added new sections for services like Music, PS Now.. I even had the Store crash once. So just to be clear, you are closing the Game/App before you turn off or enter rest mode? There are 2 types. -In the PS4 menu, press options, select "close application" -Press Hold PS button for quick menu & select close app from there. I've always done the first option. With 2.5 & 2.51 they added option 2. The other bugs you encounter are all pretty much the same on my end regarding internet features. Sometimes the "What's New" does display on boot-up, sometimes it shows "Cannot Load" One thing is clear.. It is always a random issue that occurs regardless of what you do on the system. I usually have a game disc inside the system so I sometimes do not notice if it loads or not because the game tile will show once the disc is read. When you press triangle to refresh content, it should only take a few seconds. It may not have the latest info in say the last 30 minutes but should have the last hour. I can't say if I have the problem of viewing other players stuff in What's New section. Basically I have not looked at every single tile. I have checked random videos & random trophies people got in games & sometimes I have to wait a bit for a video to load. This happens not just from the system but apps on phone & tablet. What would be more concerning to me is the 3 beeps instead of all that Internet Fluff. The 3 beeps is the indication that you are manually overriding the system to shut down when it is not ready. |

If that is what the 3 beeps mean then it kind of makes sense to me. It typically happens when the networking stuff like What's New is hanging or when I was having problems with the network stuff in DriveClub and I've closed it. I'll usually want to shut down or reboot to try to clear the issue. So, what I've been thinking is happening is just what you've described. I'm trying to reboot, shut down, etc. while whatever network task is still trying to complete in the background. |

I need help, when I turned on my PS4 a little while ago to update it, it got nearly completed and all of a sudden stopped and when I click on suggestions it said I should try to see if I'm connected to the internet (which I was) so I hit try again and it says the same thing.
When I go into try internet connections, it says failed, but what's weird is, I use the same internet service for my PS4 as I do on my PC and I'm not having no problems on my PC, just on my PS4. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. |

So the internet test fails? Which part and wireless or wired? I think the simplest thing to try is to power down the PS4 completely, reset your router and once it's back up, power the PS4 back on and see if it works then. If that doesn't work, maybe try going through the PS4 network setup again.
Edit: Actually, varmintx's idea is probably the easiest and fastest thing to do first. |

Nope. Just another thing I would like to remove. I guess that is why I always see it. I never use rest mode because I always power down after use. |

Just go to power save settings and then the section where you set what is available in rest mode. Turn off supply power to USB ports and your fan should turn off. I do that so the USB hub I have connected to the PS4 isn't always lit up (each port has a blue light on it).

Well this is interesting...
Pressing the button to take a screenshot does not show the picture capture icon on the screen anymore nor makes a sound. No notifications from messages sent from friends. No notifications of files being updated or installed. I do have notifications on. There is no picture notification option I am aware of. Edit Went into Rest Mode, got 2 beeps. Waited a few minutes, booted back up, everything seems to work now. lol Last edited by Derb; 04-24-2015 at 03:05 AM. |
