Yeah, Amazon seems to carry just about everything. What I don't like about them is that they hardly ever have decent exclusives and their prices are usually just them matching someone else. If they became the only way to buy movies, it would probably become more expensive and less exciting (because there would be no exclusives). But the same thing would happen if the home video world became all-digital. I doubt Amazon would ever become the only store and I doubt the world would go all-digital. The world needs competition.

Agreed. As much as I've taken a liking (loving?) to digital, I don't want to see Blu-ray/physical media disappear. It still represents the pinnacle in home video quality. Plus, I do like having movies on my shelves. What I don't like is the idea of disc rot/scratches, but I'll try not to think about that. It's not that common really.

I use to Rent Movies weekly from a Mom&Pop then I went to RedBox, now I balance buying from UV Stores and try to get the best price. I use UltraViolet Cinema: http://ultravioletcinema.com/getuv.php?q=HD I don't think I have the patience to wait a year to watch Movies, I hate waiting the few months when they come out at the Cinema. That's why I love Digital HD, you can get them early and before they come out on Disc. I can't wait till they come out at the same time as Cinema....That day is coming real soon! Digital copies are being made available way before Blu ray and DVDs to entice customers to switch (I have spoken enough about how this benefits studios in the past). End of the day regardless of what anyone says, studios are only in it for the money. Why would they do that when they can charge you twice or more (Once for seeing it in the theater, another time for digital or blu ray etc). I recall someone mentioning endless possibilities on digital. I am curious to know what this means. It's not like I can watch the movie on any device I want or any time I want without several restrictions. If it is actually endless someone probably conked the studio executives in the head. |

SteeDeels method of buying blurays is pretty clever tbh
January (and other early in the year) releases will be cheaper when bought around say Christmas Might try this with digital ![]() |

![]() Price? Some of the discs have dropped to under £10, many are at the typical price of £14.99, others are specialist titles and are a little more expensive) It's a mixed bag. I think it's something like £750-£800. On top of that I buy tv like AHS and Bates Motel (sadly not Hannibal anymore) With the PlayStation VR headset it's going to be bloody expensive this year but I don't have a wife or kids so that's a bonus! The final ok? Not sure what you mean mate. If you mean when do I choose, I revise the list on my iPad over the year. It's worked as well, only ever put a handful of discs on EBay. I have way over the collection it states in my profile I have just been too lazy to add more titles. I must get around to it. Late November is my time to pounce. Like you say, some discs are cheaper and have dropped to under £10. Last edited by Steedeel; 06-16-2016 at 09:25 AM. |

Yeah, I'm debating whether I should partially adopt this method. Not fully. I couldn't go a year without buying any movies, but I could get fewer movies each month, so I can get the rest of them cheaper at the end of the year. We'll see how patient I can be.

Yeah, I don't have a shortage of things to watch, but then new stuff also comes out that I want or stuff goes on sale, and I love a good sale price. It's tough. I've struggled with this almost since the beginning of my collecting days. I know the movies will still be there if I don't buy them now, but I might want to watch them now. I could wait to get Kung Fu Panda 3 next month, but I don't want to wait until the end of the year. That's me.

This is a bit off topic but does every digital streaming service sometimes not have the original aspect ratio of a movie? I right now use Vudu as my main digital streaming provider and some movies I "own" through the service don't have the original aspect ratio, for example Batman: The Movie on Vudu is 1:78:1 but on the blu-ray it's 1:85:1. Also A Clockwork Orange in Vudu is stretched to 1:78:1 to fill the screen making everything on the screen look stretched horizontally but on the blu-ray it's 1:66:1. These are 2 movies that I did a D2D in Vudu. There are also some movies in Vudu that are 1:33:1 stretched to 1:78:1. Is aspect ratio issues with some movies in Vudu a good reason to switch to iTunes or will I also occasionally run into that issue in iTunes as well? It's just that I nearly "own" 500 movies in Vudu but only about 90 in iTunes and I just prefer to have all my movies in one digital library. Is this just a common issue with digital movies?
