Is the combination of lingering disc sales, digital sales and streaming service licensing roughly equal to 80's VHS numbers or 2000's DVD numbers? I don't know, I'm wondering. You paint home video as a vanished revenue stream but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

I don't think all those DTV movies would still be a thing if there wasn't money in it for all involved.

When I was a manager of a local video store in the late 90’s early 2000 DTV was releases were very popular. The reason is there isn’t that many big new releases every week, you would have maybe 2-3. It was common for regular customers to rent about 5 a week so they would rent DTV as back fill.

Not to mention weirdos like me who really only enjoy a few genres, so when there's nothing "big" coming out we look to b-level stuff.

Watched First Blood in 4K last night after picking it up and FB Part II yesterday. When I looked at the 1080p screenshots, it seemed to lean more towards green in its colour grading, but the UHD looked way more natural. The restoration was very impressive, and the video encode was superb from where I sat (55” at like 15 feet away) with only a few shots showing macroblocking, though even those were minor and only took up a small part of the screen.

The subtitles were hilarious. My hearing isn’t perfect, so I watch everything with subtitles even though I don’t have to, but 2/3 of the subs were totally off with completely different dialogue than what was actually spoken.

Overall, it was worth the $15 I spent. Gonna watch Part II in a day or two.

Any idea on how to obtain the slipcover? Mine didn't come with one, neither did Halloween. Sucks when it's always a hit or miss to obtain one.

Saw the film today, the last time was probably when I was 10 or 11. The movie looked stunning!

Recently got these. Only watched the new documentary on First Blood so far. Really wish they'd release the tv cut of First Blood.

Does anyone else think part III is better than part II?

II is probably the better one from a critical perspective, but I personally enjoy III much more.

I do. Part II set the bar for action movies when it came out, but seeing it now, it didn't age as well as the other movies and Cosmatos is the weakest director of the series.

I like Rambo III more for the bigger scope, the saving Trautman premise and the action sequences are thrilling and Goldsmith's score on par with what Williams was doing at that time. Sadly the last half hour or so part III jumps the shark, but I enjoy it a lot more than Part II. Favorite sequences the opening credits/stick fight, first rescue attempt with the timed explosives and the cave sequence.

First Blood still remains best movie of the series, but for action/excitement, Rambo III is the go to sequel IMO

I still like 2 more but 3 has really grown on me. I didn’t watch 3 all that much. When I was young it was always 2. I thought 1 was boring when I was kid. I didn’t know better, I just wanted over the top action.

I watched #2 yesterday, and will watch 3 some time this week. I found 2 pretty shocking in terms of it reminded me how bad action audio tracks were in those days. It was pretty bad. Amazing Predator came out the next year (I think) and that wipes the floor with it for sound alone.

But gee, the sound of the bow shooting was just laughable!

I do think from my last viewing I always liked #3 a lot more than #2.

Rambo II's Dolby Stereo 35/70MM tracks have been...misplaced. The 5.1 remix is from a mono element.

They just found the original music tracks fairly recently, I'm hoping they'll find the rest someday.

Ah right. No wonder it was so bad, and gave me recollections of watching it in the 80s on VHS on TV.... That said, I doubt the ricochet sound the bow made when it shot an arrow would be any better in that... :P

Does Rambo III fare any better audio wise? Was it just 2 that had this issue?
