Sorry about that, but on the bright side you now own the Extended cut of the film which is Excellent! I watch the extended cut every Christmas.
That ending is so sad and 70's lol

Sorry to ask, I tried the search feature but couldn't find an answer to this. Are these discs, the blu-rays not the 4k, plagued with sporadic flicker and excessive grain? Could I have bought a bad set? They're both literally among the worst blu-ray transfers I've ever seen. Is this how everyone's discs look?

Looks like Paramount themselves will enter the fray with their own domestic 4K release of the 1976 "King Kong" on April 9th! Would hope their version will NOT contain all the digital color tinkering from the Studio Canal release in the UK from 2022. Time will tell...

What are you talking about? The shout factory? The Studiocanal?

Does your TV have noise reduction turned on?

I think it was Paramount who handled the color grading on SC's 4K to begin with, so I imagine that will be the same, though the encoding... that's what time will tell.

It's also on digital/streaming. I rented the 4k off iTunes and it's the same as the SC version.

I used to have a tuner on which the video input selector was a knob. If the knob was slightly off the signal looked bad - maybe you’ve got a similar setup?

I think I'm gonna have to watch and wait on the Paramount 4K. I'd love to upgrade from the old HD master, but the SC disc was kind of one step forward, two steps back. If the grading on this disc is better, I'll bite.

Does anyone know which source material the Italian Special Edition is derived from. Is it the Shout release by any chance?

I do like the cover art for the Italian release.

Sorry for the delay in response. The Shout Factory release. No, I take all the DNR, FNR, BNR, MNR, and edge enhancements off. It doesn't matter though. On or off the flicker and grain is still present, even when both the tv and player are set to movie mode, still there, although with those chosen, it flickers the least.

I love the Shout release. But I wouldn't mind if some of the matte lines got cleaned up in the future. Like in this shot.

Well today is the 48th anniversary of King Kong USA release. Can’t believe it’s been that long. Going to watch it tonight.

I've probably posted about this previously, but I've added tons to the site since I may have.

I run a King Kong 1976 Archive website that's chock full of scans of photos, lobby cards, advertising, articles, collectibles, and more.

That's great. If I could ask, what about King Kong 1976 fascinates you so much, and what inspired you to make that website? Is it your favorite film?

This is my favorite version of Kong! Although I love the 1933 original as well. I describe them to people like this: 1933-A technical marvel for it's time and a great 1930's action adventure film. 1976-Big budget adventure that plays like a Marvel Comic book with a fantastic John Barry score. 2005-An over indulgent technical feat that starts off well then becomes a snore because it's twice as long as it needs to be. Just my opinions.
