Seeing J.J. Abrams name on a Star Wars poster just irks me. How I wish Brad Bird had agreed to make the film.

I can't say I'm too surprised, I've said it before about how Struzan was told by the studios that their focus groups indicated that people thought such hand-drawn movie posters were "old fashioned". It seems that Lucasfilm (or perhaps Mr Iger's attack dogs) aren't immune to this way of thinking, not even when they're on an otherwise old-school charm offensive. Yes, they've got Struzan to do some bits and pieces but they didn't appear to have the bottle to do the full, final movie poster that way. Fingers crossed that he DID actually do one though, and that it gets released some day. It'll only be a drop in the ocean of merchandise that this movie has spawned.

Or Andrew Stanton. But hey, it seems JJ is more at home with Star Wars than in Star Trek, considering that he's more of a SW fan than a Trekkie himself.

That's fine if you're a fan of Abrams though. He doesn't have an original bone in his body. His entire career has been about leeching on other directors work, trying to replicate it with his own inane "style" or lack thereof. Those Trek films were just the worst. The worst.

That is an unfortunate positioning of Leia's two round balls of hair to Chewbacca's large erect body of hair...

ANOTHER Death Star? Pattern recognition is not strong with this one...

Apparently, Bryan Morton, who played Anakin in the 2007 Rose Parade was the art director of the new poster.

http://makingstarwars.net/2015/10/20321/

I would really like to know what the hell happened with this poster and why Struzan didn't do it.

Star Trek 2009 was a good time, even if only for a while. Into Darkness was bleh.

I think JJ shows a lot of his "hack" side with movies like Super 8 and MI: III. They're enjoyable, but I don't see an ounce of originality from him. Those movies look like they're trying to emulate the frenetic action sequences from Bay films, and the wonder and sentimentality of Spielberg's movies.

I don't know if anyone's posted this before, but this video's an interesting analysis on what JJ could bring to Star Wars given his flare, and how other directors like Brad Bird could potentially pull off a sleeker execution.

The expression on Harrison Ford's face on that poster is like, "Man...I can't believe I'm freaking doing this."

...he's definitely in this one for the money imo.

Will this be in IMAX 2D? Do we know yet?

I've never seen an IMAX movie, it would be perfect for Star Wars to be my first. I'd rather not see it in 3D the first time, though. If only IMAX 3D is available, I may choose that route for my second viewing. But IMAX 2D would be great.

All I know is I'll be at the very first, earliest showing. I was at the movies today and I was thinking about how amazing it's going to be when the lights go dark, "A long time ago..." comes on, and then "STAR WARS" bursts into life on the screen accompanied by the score we all know so well.

Definitely. I remember the day I saw Episode III, and leaving the theater thinking how "there will never be any more Star Wars movies."

I also remember three years ago the day when the Disney deal and Episode VII were announced. So to be this close, and to have the movie look as amazing as it does, it's incredible. Kind of a weird feeling, too, because it was three years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday.

When I'm sitting in the theater in two months I'm going to have that same "I can't believe I'm about to watch this" disbelief I had in front of Jurassic World.
