We'll see. I thought the same with Charlie Strong but he was a bust there. Texas is easily one of the 3 or 4 hardest jobs in college football. The boosters are notoriously difficult to deal with, the media intense and you have at most about 3 seasons to start winning 9+ games a year.

Ohio St. still has Michigan's number. Congrats Buckeyes. Now they have to beat Wisconsin for a spot in the playoff.

I'm calling shenanigans if Washington isn't #4.

I salute Verne Lundquist.

Because Nick Saban is a pain in the ass to work with/for. He's chewed out Kiffin on national television quite a few times. I think it's a long shot, but Coach O's relationship with Kiffin could make him think about coming to the Bayou.

Coach O + Aranda + Kiffin? I'd take that in a heart beat.

Zach Mettenberger served us fairly well. We need someone that can play like that guy again.

Buckeyes!!!! I am rooting for Penn State, because win or lose Ohio State is in. Give us time off and rest our players.

Oh that's nice... So Ohio St. would actually benefit from not making the conference title game? Gotta love a 4 team playoff. Ugg.

If Penn St. loses and Ohio St. has to play a conference title game that they in turn lose they likely wouldn't make it.

Assuming they beat Auburn, Alabama is the only team that should be able to lose the conference title game and make the playoffs.

Problem is that won't happen. Even if Ohio St. doesn't make the conference title game they'll easily make the playoff with 1-loss over any Big-10 champ with 2 losses.

Eight team playoff. Power 5 each get one playoff spot, other three spots go to at-large teams. If a non-power five makes the top-10 they get one of the at-large spots. There, problem solved. Of course the way D1 football changes at glacial speed it'll probably be another decade before they figure this out...

That's the system they should have gone with from the beginning. 8 teams is the perfect number.

An 8-10 team playoff would be fantastic. Until then, I'm just happy that we finally got a college football playoff.

Fixed it for you.

Wonder what's gonna happen when USC beats Washington again?

Sadly you might be right. I really don't get why they're so stubborn. It's fairly obvious an 8 team playoff would bring in a lot more revenue than a 4 team playoff.

They need to cut down on the bowls too. 5-7 teams going to bowl games is laughable.

For sure!
Rewarding teams with a losing record with a bowl game is a joke. That shouldn't even be a thing.

Random unrelated thought: #99 Tillery on Notre Dame has zero class. He should be suspended or booted from the team for being an idiot.

Assuming no big upsets looking increasingly like it'll be Alabama, Ohio St., Clemson and Washington in the playoff.

Bama is cruising today and I can't see any chance at all Florida gives them a game in the SEC title game. Ohio St. is pretty much a lock to make it now that Penn St. won today and they won't need to play the conference title game. Clemson shouldn't have much trouble with Va Tech or South Carolina.

Washington seems the biggest undecided since either Colorado or USC can give them real trouble in the conf title game. Especially if it's USC. If an upset happens there I guess Oklahoma or the Penn St./Wisconsin winner makes the last spot. Not sure if they'll put two Big Ten teams in the playoff though.
