Ordered the steelbook for $15. Looks like the steelbook is the latest, greatest, definitive version. At $15 this is a definite pull the trigger price IMO.

I purchased a copy of this steelbook from Diabolik a couple of months ago when they put some copies up after watching a video from everyone's favorite Youtuber (In Search of Physical Media) where he claimed the steelbook would never be repressed. The steelbook had sold out months prior. He sounds so definitive when he makes these declarations but now I know what he's full of.

Mine arrived damaged but I could not get a replacement due to it being sold out. Glad I was able to get a better copy this time around with the reprint.

No doubt that YouTuber is full of it and he enjoys pushing all the FOMO rubbish.

OK fine. I'm getting it. Even though the cover art is hideous.

That is a good deal for the steel, but it's hard for me to double dip 4ks when there are so many movies i don't have on 4k at all. Plus i have a Samsung qd-oled and ub420 so no dolbyvision for me.

I've been able to tame the brightness on the old disc by setting the panasonic hdr optimizer to the lower luminance tv option. This caps the brightness to 500 nits. Kind of a pain, but it makes a big difference.

It will eventually. I had this happen with the Men in Black Steelbook.

Anyone know if this release came with a digital copy? The packaging doesn't list it but I've seen some that still do come with it.

I fking hate that guy now. I used to watch his videos actually believing he was a real enthusiast. His sand castle started to crumbled for me when I noticed he would say something would never get reprinted, then I saw reprints. There was also some other rubbish he said later that was disputed but don't recollect what the details are and I started to watch him less. And what's odd is now he has over 60k subscribers yet his comment section is about the same as it was a year ago when he probably had at most 10k subs... that's a bit sus. Anyways, I don't give af about what he posts now.

[Show spoiler]

It did but they silently phased the code out by the time it expired. My copy is the same.

That's the central fallacy of YouTube: just because someone can speak into a camera doesn't make them an authority on anything. There ARE plenty of people on there who know their shit on whatever subjec, but curiously enough not in the disc-reviewing field, which is mostly comprised of crooks, clowns and charlatans for some reason.

I just ordered this for $15.40. Too hard to pass up when the compression is noticeably better than the original UHD.

I don't trust yt disc "reviewers", mainly because many are young and have never even seen the films they get from the studios for free, but I do enjoy looking at what packaging looks like to kind of get a sense what to expect when I get my copies. Most "reviews" consist of the "hosts" reading the back covers of the blu-ray cases. I can do that myself lol.

Does the new steelbook offer any improvements in image quality if you're just watching it in HDR10 and not taking advantage of the new DV grade? One thing I hate about the old UHD is how contrasty and blown out the highlights are on my ~550 nit display thanks to Sony's light Cannon grades.

If a Youtuber does Youtube for their "job" (lol btw) they default cannot be trusted, they are a product and are in it for the long game, and most will say and do anything to stay in it. They all want to become Mr Beast.

If a Youtuber does it for a hobby, and uploads videos to a channel that isn't monetized, and it's just a person sharing their opinion/stories, I'm more inclinded to trust them if they sound knowledgeable or have previous pedigree (I worked at ____.) If GeoffD made a Youtube channel I'm sure plenty of people here would check it. The problem is many "job" Youtubers these days larp as these casual types to build an audience but are lying out their teeth constantly, just like that 4k caps guy who got busted here (I spend so much time and money on ze caps!).

That's why a guy like Bill Hunt is so frustrating, he has knowledge, and surely he has an empire by now where he can do what he wants, but still he clings to the Hollywood system out of fear that he'll share a real opinion about something and be cut off. So his opinion is also worth dirt.

Mine just came in and to me the steel looks much better in person than the rendered photo on retailer websites.
