I know someone that keeps their tree up all year long, because they call it a "holiday" tree. So New Year’s, Groundhog’s, Valentine’s, etc. he uses it for every holiday.

I was all over it, just selling his merits. I messaged that fella this morning after work and he’s got an interview tonight.

my mom's tv isn't showing a picture. it's got sound, but no picture.

cables are good, satellite box is good...

guess i gotta find the way to save enough money to buy her a new one.

Is it hooked via HDMI? The port could be mostly dead. If the box allows you to hook up with component cables - try that. If the box doesn't have that feature you can buy an HDMI to Component converter at walmart/best buy. If that input works - you just got a bad HDMI and yeah, you'd need to replace the TV as it's more cost effective on older units but you can save up and use this input for now.

Of course if the TV has multiple HDMI ports and you already tried the connection on another one it's got a fried board.

it gets its picture and sound through the hdmi, from the satellite receiver. the only other connection is the power cable. it gets sound, just no picture. and i can switch the hdmi cable to another input (it has 3 hdmi inputs), but i just can't select it on the tv since i can't get a picture. it doesn't even do the brand logo. and the screen never changes from the off-black color to a deeper black when you turn it on.

her previous tv did this same thing shortly after we bought it. like, a few weeks after. we called the warranty number and they came out with a new board and it worked fine. a couple weeks later it did the same thing. they came out again and changed another board. it worked fine again for about another 2 weeks. the next time, they just brought a new tv and took the old one away. it worked flawlessly until late yesterday. if it's another board, there's no telling how much it would cost; but most likely not much more to just buy a new tv as this one is definitely out of the warranty period.

i was looking online earlier and i can get her a samsung (which i like better than the brand she has, now); same size, better overall specs, for about half of what we paid for her current one back in 2011. and it would be a 4k smart tv; not that she needs 4k. but the "smart" part is something she's going to need here in a couple/few months when i dump satellite and switch to amazon prime and hulu.

Have you looked into TCL Roku TVs? Target carries them and they are more budget-friendly but with solid reviews.
