I found your score for Psycho... disturbing.
Seriously though, Magnolia is a "unique" film. Going by some of your likes and dislikes, I'd wager that it wont be your cup o' tea. Not that you dont like unique, its just this particular brand of unique that I believe will rub you the wrong way. |

Black Swan
Director: Darren Aronofsky Writers: Mark Heyman and Andres Heinz Mains: Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel "Perfect....." Plot (IMDb): A ballet dancer wins the lead in "Swan Lake" and is perfect for the role of the delicate White Swan, but slowly loses her mind as she becomes more and more like the evil twin sister of the White Swan, the Black Swan. My Take: Words cant express my true feelings for this Masterpiece. Darren Aronofsky has out done himself with the over the top psycho thriller. Portman's best role ever and Aronofsky's most powerful film. Truly a horror film that has you on the edge of your seat praying and hoping from some type of redemption. The musical score is very powerful and provoking. The entire film is asking for you to jump out and scream. Caring for the main characters the entire film the plot really sucks you right in. Everything about the movie was perfect. Is it your typical type of film? No, should you dare yourself to see it YES!!!! By all means, its simply astounding on every level. The battle for perfection can take you a long way or to a place that you dont want. Black Swan is nothing shorter than a perfect thriller that will leave you in shock. Darren Aronofsky is making his way to one of my favorite directors, his vision, camera work and overall choice of movies to direct are above average and most of all COMPLETELY ORIGINAL!!!! You'll either love or hate is movie but they will have the same overall moral effect on every viewer. Conclusion: It seems Aronofsky is becoming the KING of depression and if Natalie Portman doesn't win BEST LEADING ACTRESS I will give up on movies completely..... No but she really deserves it. This woman showed crazy range in this film. Great chance for Best Picture and overall amazing. Like i mentioned before the movie is powerful and breath taking a definite MUST SEE!! MUST SEE 5/5 |

Next greatest rental: “The Toolbox Murders.”
Ever since the Tarantino/Rodriguez “Grindhouse” Experience a few years ago, I’ve become slightly intrigued in the occasional B-rated exploitation film. There’s a certain decadent charm to these trashy flicks. The more I think about it, the more I’m regarding “I Spit on Your Grave” as my potential favorite in this seedy side of filmmaking. And based on the review/cover art for this movie’s Blu-Ray, I had some hope that “The Toolbox Murders” would be entertaining. But alas, this is not that movie. Turns out it was remade, and I wound up watching it. And there ain’t no Grindhouse charm in this POS, dammit! ![]() So, the “Toolbox Murders” 2004...sucks. Most of it went in one eyeball and out the other, because it’s clear from the start that this film is arbitrary among slasher flicks. There’s not much of a story (naturally), and the actual murdering scenes are few and far between (and not tremendously bloody either, despite some level of inventiveness). Not much nudity/sex/perversity worth mentioning either. Nothing provocative, nothing new. ![]() The story contains few bright moments, but to me it comes off as clichéd and dull. The most interesting parts are not so much in the murders or the mystery, as it is in seeing characters cope with their thin-walled apartments. One neighbor suspects that something’s going on, but of course nobody believes her (oh God, I’m getting so fed up with this type of thing!). With a cast of poorly-developed characters (many of which seem unlikable or annoying), it gets to the point where you can point to the screen and list them all off as hammer fodder. Then you root for the killer! Go man go!! ![]() ![]() The film seemed kinda poor as well. The cameramanship has a few interesting angles, but most of it felt plain and dull to me. Acting is passable, but there’s no recognizable faces here and nobody who really stands out. Production value seems a little cheap. Music is probably the only standout thing (don’t worry, it’s not a jump-scare tactic either), but it’s still pretty average. 2/5 (entertainment: 2/5, story: 1/5, film: 2.5/5) Recommendation: Hell no! I’ll order up the original pronto, and see how it compares. Not that I’m expecting much, but a 70s exploitation style would probably be funner than this. ![]() |

American Beauty
Director: Sam Mendes Writer: Alan Ball Mains: Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening and Thora Birch "I'm filming this dead bird. Why? Because its beautiful.." Plot (IMDb): Lester Burnham, a depressed suburban father in a mid-life crisis, decides to turn his hectic life around after developing an infatuation for his daughter's attractive friend. My Take: First off I'll like to mention that this film has won 5 oscars but i dont know why so many???? Is the film good? Yes. Its the film oscar worthy? HELL NO. How does a film like this win 5 oscars???? I know its just my opinion and i do have to take in consideration when the film came out so with all that taken maybe the film is oscar worthy. On with the film. American Beauty was a nice little treat. Its a movie that is as realistic as it is portrayed, i can relate to every character. Many get bend up about the ending where my all of my foucus was on the mid age married man that has lost all of his "mojo" because of work and failure in his relationship. Seeing Kevin Spacey's character rise made me feel simply great. There was nothing more i wanted but to see him happy. The was pretty good and everyone that i know enjoys it i just dont think its 5 oscar great. Come on share the love lol. Conclusion: American Beauty is one of the drama's that anyone could get into. Its told in a very basic manner and gets right to the point. I dont think its as deep as dramas like Magnolia but its still a treat. You'll find this movie to be very rewarding and overall refreshing...... or not. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 4.5/5 |
