For anyone struggling to play this set on their PlayStation 5:
Put the Alien disc in first. Once you've selected a cut and reached the main menu, eject the disc. A large Weyland Yutani screensaver will appear. Then you can put any of the other five discs in and it will allow you to resume. The MU-TH-UR mode integration seems to be causing this issue. This also means that, even if you upgrade Alien to 4K, you will still need the Blu of the first movie to act as a key/unlock for the rest of the set. |

I just wasted my time figuring this out and making a post about it in the U.S. thread. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...8#post23399828 I only thought about this thread just now because I thought it was worth posting in more than one place. |

It’s because the set saves data across all the discs which is driven by the first film disc. It allows the interactive feature to work but stuffs playback if not done as noted.
You may also need plug in an external USB memory stick if your player allows. Had to do this on my old BD player as the stuff this feature requires fills up a lot of internal storage and many older players didn’t have enough so wouldn’t work without a USB as well. |

If it works then the problem is a PS5 exclusive. Damn PlayStation gets all the exclusives. |

My post releases to this having issues with a standalone Sony BD from years ago. Long since discontinued. As I said plugging in an external USB a memory stick foxed it. The player had insufficient internal memory so the data storage required to play these disc because of the amount of data the discs need to operate the interactive features meant the discs wouldn’t play without it. |

If you're referring to other problems that this set has with some players, then yes, I know at least one. In a Sony BDP-S3200, the "Making of" disc (disc 5) crashes the player completely. When you put the disc in, it loads to the menu normally. But when you watch any segment, when it finishes and returns to the menu, it freezes like this ![]() It won't stop, or eject, or power down. You have to pull the plug. This has nothing to do with having a USB stick plugged in. I do, it makes no difference. The disc menu is 1080p24, but all the content is 480i. With the player's default output settings, this makes the content play upscaled to 1080p60, and the switch back to 1080p24 seems to trigger the crash. I have no idea why. I've never have any other discs with standard def features have this happen. The solution is to disable the player's 24p output. Setup > Screen Settings > BD-ROM 24p Output = Off (default is Auto) This makes the disc menu play at 1080p60, same as the content, so there is no frame rate switching. The disc plays just fine, and the player doesn't s**t the bed. |

Sorry my memory is foggy as it’s year ago and the problematic player is long gone.
Do have this boxset but it’s in storage as so old. Only have the 4K of Alien and Aliens out with my live discs and don’t recollect any issues with those but then they didn’t use the crappy interactive features Fox mastered the original boxset with. |
