they have Nights of Cabiria at ONE b&n near me. I'm gonna try and put it on reserve so it doesn't get sold... even though I can't get there in three days.

Last Year at Mariendbad has one corner with the slightest wear on it, but other than that they look great.
Yes, I hate to bring up this topic again but everytime I hold my Criterion DVDs I put a smile on my face because of how solid the packaging feels then I head over to the blus and I am sorrowed by how cheap they feel. My opinion on the cardboard vs clear is that I don't like both they both feel cheap, but no more benjamin button style blue please

Talking Huray for Wings of Desire

Since I haven't heard much enthusiasm, I'll be the first to shout for Wings of Desire. Hip hip huuray, Hip hip Huuray. One of the greatest thought provoking and beutifully shot films of all time. Top twenty foreign films of all time a true masterpiece. A must own. And Wim Wenders is really great guy. I will double dip since I own an MGM DVD which he signed the DVD cover for me. He's down to earth.

I can imagine the transfer this will get on Crit Blu. It will be dazzling achievement. Rejoice!!!!

So how much have some of you dropped at the barnes & Noble Criterion sale? I went a little crazy with it cause I've had a wish list going and for those mentioning RAN and CONTEMPT most stores still seem to have copies in stock.

so far i got Battle of Algiers, Horse's Mouth, Tunes of Glory, The Blob, Fiend Without a Face, Agnes Varda Set, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Haxan, Monsters and Madmen Set, Mr Akardin, Eisenstein Sound Years Set, Schizopolis, 2 or 3 Things I know About Her, Made in the U.S.A., Carnival of Souls, The Killers, Mamma Roma, Pickpocket, Simon of the Desert, Thieves' Highway.

Some titles i feel like could wait on a BD release for titles like Double Life of Veronique cause it just seems like a good candidate for a quicker BD release than most titles, but it is a gamble either way.

Blus I bought from this sale so far: The Seventh Seal, The Wages of Fear, the 400 blows, Last year at marienbad, the third man, In the realm of senses, the chungking express, and Repulsion

DVD's I bought so far: The Virgin Spring, Wild Strawberries, and the bergman 'faith' trilogy (Through a glass darkly, the silence, and winter light)

Expensive month lol

What do you think the chances are that the virgin spring (One of my favorites of all time) and wild strawberries will get a blu release????

it is all a guessing game but I think Bergman films will get releases in due time. Question I guess with any Criterion BD release is just timing. Usually happy with what they announce, but I would actually like Juliet of the Spirits released too. So many titles it just hurts to watch newer DVD releases wishing you had the BD for stuff like Friends of Eddie Coyle and Made in the U.S.A.

Does anyone have the "Two Lane Blacktop" Criterion 2-DVD set? If so how is it? Barnes and Noble has if for 50% off, since a Blu is not been released (and might never be)I might have to get that one, I have the Anchor Bay DVD in the collector's tin w/ key chain, I'm just wondering is this worth the upgrade from that edition?

I never owned the Anchor Bay version, but I love my Criterion release of "Two-Lane Blacktop." I'm pretty sure that DVDBeaver's site has a comparison between the two releases if you hop over there and look.

CC

EDIT: Actually, DVDBeaver doesn't have a comparison, it seems. They have a review of the Criterion disc, though.

Thanks. I'll probably pick this up, 20 bucks + tax at B&N is probably the cheapest I'll ever find for this Monte Hellman classic, wish Criterion would do the same for Hellman's "Cockfighter"! I'm still looking for good WS transfers of "The Shooting" and "Ride In The Whirlwind".

I got a 10% off coupon for B&N, I'm stuck between getting "The Last Emperor" and "The Man Who Fell To Earth" I have only seen the long dir. cut that was on the Artisan DVD, I have never seen the theatrical version before. But I'm also a David Bowie fan, but have never seen this film? I'm a bit low on funds right now an can only afford one, which ones the better Blu-ray in your opinion?

Thanks! will get "The Last Emperor" tomorrow, I actually printed two 10%coupons, might just have to get the other one too, 20 bones for a Criterion Blu-ray release is incredible, we might not see these great prices for some time after the sale ends. Not sure if they will let me use two coupons though.

Just came back from B&N with "The Last Emperor" Blu-ray for 18.90 tax incl. also picked up the "Two-Lane Blacktop" Special Edition 2-DVD set for the same price! I've noticed that the newer Criterion bu's are in PS3 type cases, almost picked up "For All Mankind" but will have to wait for next payday to get that one! Also wan't "The Third Man", man these Criterion's are addictive! I also found today a mint copy of "The Royal Tenenbaums" at my local thrift store for only a buck! I also found sealed copies of "M Hulot's Holiday" and "Mon Oncle" at the same thrift shop a few months back for 4 bones each!

Looks that our friends at criterionforum.org have received their copies of Playtime and Kagemusha. They already made packaging photos of both releases:
Playtime Blu-ray
Kagemusha Blu-ray
