The Olympic box set had a release announcement before the 15th right? I can’t remember what was announced with it. Wasn’t it pretty light?

It was among the December announcements. An already light month typically. We also had Election, the Monterey Pop rereleases, & Dada: A Self Portrait.

Aaand you can order the Olympic set for the lightning deal price again. It's still listed as "Temporarily Out of Stock", so who knows when it'll ship, but it's nice that it's available again at the price for the moment.

I'm still not sure I should buy it. I was not sure if I wanted it before, then it went out of stock and I was like "Damn I should have bought it!" and then I told my wife about it and she's like "You'd spend that much on a bunch of olympics documentaries we'll probably never watch?" and now I'm not so sure I want it again after she said that haha, even though I could order it now for the right price. Hmm... I should probably hold off and use that money for things I want more. Or will I regret not having this at such a nice price!?

Still waiting for Criterion to announce a box set of the other Godzilla films they have, then I'll be excited.

Same here. I was going to buy The Virgin Spring in this sale but I think I'll wait for this set (which, fortunately, is coming just in time with the second B&N sale). Now I need to see what am I going to do with the other Bergman films I already own (Summer Interlude, Smiles of a Summer Night, Persona, The Seventh Seal, Fanny & Alexander, Wild Strawberries and Autumn Sonata). Very excited for this set!!

I could get behind something like that, but which ones do they have?

Looks like I'm getting double-burned on Virgin Spring haha. First, I pre-ordered it and didn't know when it came out and it ended up arriving the damn day the sale started, and my price paid was $28 when I could have just bought it at the store on the first day of the sale for $18. Then like 2 weeks later and we learn about this kickass set coming in November, which means I'll be double-dipping on that movie anyway haha.

Is there any way you can access the wishlist section that was in the "My Criterion" page before they took it down to update it? I'm buying some films in the B&N sale, and while I have some pretty clear choices, I wanted to see my list to see what other films I may be forgetting.

Have you watched a lot of it? How are the documentaries of the more recent olympics, like 2004 to present? I wouldn't mind reliving some of my favorite moments from this era, but I've heard those more recent ones aren't very good? I of course also want to see all the classic docs in the set that I've never seen before, they seem like a great history lesson.

I received the Olympic box for Christmas. Much was said too about the cost and that I don’t watch the current games that much. I’m not a sports fan in most cases. Racing, boxing and some hockey for me. This box is impressive and I’m happy to have it in my collection. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the early years in the set. Historically I’m in awe. I am ashamed to say in my education, I never learned much about the games so it’s like a fun lesson. Visually, I’m also impressed with how well it looks and was filmed. Again, not too well educated in old cinema. So seeing this, I’m a zombie staring at the screen. I haven’t made it all the way through the box, but I have watched several discs a few times. If money is not an issue and historic and cinematic technical wow are your interest, I’d say grab it.
With how this looks on disc, the quality of the box, I hope Criterion can pull off something like this again. I keep hinting on social media that a NASA/Criterion box would be a great piece to have.

Click the hamburger menu and then select "My Account". Log in and then you can select your wishlist at the bottom of the screen.

i've seen up to the mid 80's. the ones during ww2 are amazing with hitler , and the one's in the 70's and 80's are great by bud greenspan. Tokyo Olympiad is amazing. there is also a lot of history that they kept in unedited, like bruce jenner which is one of the few things I noticed

With this Bergman set announcement, I have a feeling that October's and November's releases are going to be incredible. I'd imagine that December will be a lighter month.

We already know that The Magnificent Ambersons is most likely coming in November as well. The month has always been a big one, but they're outdoing themselves here. Curious when that WKW box set and Come and See will release now.

I will likely get it when I do my B&N order next weekend. I'm trying to hard to be good, because the bulk of my summer and fall buying will be when Criterion does their Flash sale, but there's just so much I want.

I was going to get The Virgin Spring, but there's some kind of set coming out in November.....

But I have to balance this latter with the possibility that the ones I don't have will be released individually. However, that hasn't happened with the Tati or the Demy sets.

Dang....glad I have several months to think about this.
The way I look at it, the set is a must. I have eight of the films already, so, buying the set will represent a partial double dip. But as a great admirer of Bergman, a lover of his films, and a cinephile, brisk sales will send a message to Criterion (and I would hope other boutique labels, and perhaps the major studios) that there is still an appetite for this kind of quality release. The money I spend here will represent an investment in my love of film, and hopefully encourage the companies we patronize to put together similar releases.

Physical media might be in its twilight, but they're going to have to drag me away kicking and screaming.
