I see UCF picked up a former CU commit. Hell of a RB but don't think he will get into school. That's why he's a former CU commit.

Whatever tiny chance Art Briles had at ever getting another college coaching job ended yesterday with the release of more messages showing Briles not only knew about multiple offenses by football players but also did his best to make sure that the offenses weren't reported to police or prosecuted.

The full scope of this thing actually seems bigger than the Penn St. case given how many people knew what was going on and either did nothing or outright participated in the cover up. If there is any case of a program was deserving the "death penalty" it's Baylor football. The whole thing is looking worse by the day. It's looking like everyone was complicit - players, coaches, school administration, the local police and even the Waco media kept the scandal from coming to light.

Not to mention Baylor already has the stain of the murder cover up from years ago.

I'm still not sure on how Major Applewhite will do as a head coach but I am definitely glad we didn't hire Briles. I wanted no part of him even before these details came out.

I'm kind of surprised Florida Atlantic is sticking with Kendal Briles. I thought for sure they would want to sever ties with him.

The Waco media did their best to ignore this story. There were rumblings about the sexual assault problems well before the story got out but the Waco media did nothing. There was a potential Pulitzer prize caliber story in their own backyard that was pretty much an open secret but it was national media outlets that brought the whole story to light.

Unfortunately it was probably about "protecting the brand," or more likely fear that prevented them from digging in too deep on this story. It can be dangerous for journalists of a hometown newspaper to be seen "going after" the local college team in a place where football means everything to many people. But as you say, there could have been a Pulitzer if anyone at the Waco Tribune had the courage to do a real investigation early on in this story.

I don't know if anything will happen to Baylor, though. NCAA hasn't shown much of a desire to involve themselves into this mess.

When your employer is facing calls for their football program to get the death penalty it's probably not smart to try and hire a prostitute:

Quote:
Late Monday night, new Baylor coach Matt Rhule fired his strength coach, who has arrested over the weekend for soliciting a prostitute. The move comes less than a week after Baylor released evidence of alleged cover-up and wrongdoing by Art Briles and his staff members.

Brandon Washington, first hired by Rhule as a strength and conditioning coach at Temple in 2016, had a short stint with the Bears that ended over the weekend after his arrest.

Wow. Like father like son? Does make me wonder if this guy was molested by his own dad. Child victims of sexual abuse do have much higher rates of becoming abusers themselves. I know one of Jerry Sandusky's children did say his dad molested him.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/13/us/jer...y-son-charged/

Quote:
Jeffrey Sandusky, the son of convicted sex abuser and former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, has been arrested on felony and misdemeanor child sexual abuse charges, according to court documents from the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The younger Sandusky, 41, faces 14 counts, including sexual assault of a child older than 11, sexual assault of a child less than 16, and a variety of other sexual abuse and child pornography charges.

The charges have offense dates going as far back as March 1, 2013, according to the court documents.

It sounds like it could be a matter of when and not if Ole Miss fires Hugh Freeze after the school self-imposed a bowl ban for 2017 over several severe infractions:

Quote:
The NCAA is now hitting Ole Miss with the dreaded lack of institutional control charge after adding eight new violations on top of the 13 previously alleged against the Rebels. Most headline-grabbing of those is an accusation that a former staff member put a former recruit in touch with two boosters who provided “between $13,000 and $15,600” in impermissible cash benefits.
Quote:
Freeze is charged with violating “head coach responsibility legislation” due to the misdeeds of his assistants. He retains the full support — for now — of Chancellor Jeff Vitter and AD Ross Bjork, who plan to contest the charge against Freeze.

But c’mon. Let’s be real here.

Only a Hall of Fame basketball coach (Jim Boeheim, Rick Pitino) survives allegations like these on his watch. Over the years, football icons from Auburn’s Pat Dye to Ohio State’s Jim Tressel learned they couldn’t outlast extra benefits scandals.

What hope does one-time Sugar Bowl champion Hugh Freeze hold? Especially coming off a 5-7 stinker in 2016 and entering what will now be another lost season in 2017.
If Ole Miss does fire Freeze it'll be interesting to see what kind of coach they can hire. They'd certainly go with an interim if they fired Freeze before this season, and there's plenty of better programs that could have openings after the season including Notre Dame, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Auburn, UCLA, and Arkansas.

More investigations forthcoming for Baylor.

http://www.chron.com/news/texas/arti...f-10970102.php

Quote:
Texas Rangers to investigate Baylor handling of sex assaults

Texas' top law enforcement agency has opened a preliminary investigation into Baylor University and how it handled reports of sexual and physical assault over several years.

The Texas Rangers confirmed Wednesday they are working with the McLennan County prosecutor's office to "determine if further action is warranted."

A group of state lawmakers had called Tuesday for the Rangers to investigate Baylor, which faces several federal lawsuits from women who say the school ignored or mishandled their reports of assault for years.

Baylor officials say an internal investigation found at least 17 women who reported being sexually assaulted by 19 football players in recent years, although one lawsuit puts the number at more than 50 women.

The statement from the Texas Rangers didn't say if the agency was looking at specific cases or current or former school employees and students.

"Baylor University pledges to extend our full cooperation with the Texas Rangers surrounding the issue of sexual assaults that occurred within our campus community several years ago, as we have done with other external inquiries that are currently underway," the school said in a statement.

LOL.. Video of Oklahoma star quarterback Baker Mayfield's arrest for public intoxication, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct has been released. He tried to run from the cops and immediately got his ass handed to him. The NFL scouts probably won't like his lack of breakaway speed.

Baylor football is back in the news, and we know that's never a good thing:

Quote:
Scandal-plagued Baylor dismissed its associate director for football operations about a month after he was hired, USA TODAY Sports confirmed late Monday night.

DeMarkco Butler was hired Feb. 15 by new head football coach Matt Rhule, who was tasked with righting a football program that had several players linked to sexual and domestic assaults. KWTX-TV, the CBS affiliate in Waco, Texas, reported that Butler was fired for sending inappropriate texts to a teenager.
It doesn't say how old the teen was, but Baylor did note she's considered an adult under Texas law.

Quote:
Former Baylor tight end Tre'Von Armstead has been arrested in Las Vegas after police say he assaulted a woman, then resisted officers attempting to detain him.

Armstead was arrested Monday and charged with domestic battery, resisting arrest and damaging a vehicle, according to Clark County jail records.
Armstead was previously investigated for a sexual assault while at Baylor and was dismissed from the team in 2015 for a "violation of team rules."

Hope this scumbag gets the high end of the punishment and has to serve some real prison time. Former athletic director Tim Curley and former vice president Gary Schultz pled guilty to child endangerment last week for their roles in the Penn St. scandal.

http://www.espn.com/college-football...d-endangerment

Quote:
Graham Spanier found guilty of 1 count of child endangerment

Former Penn State president Graham Spanier was convicted Friday of one count of child endangerment over his handling of a child sex abuse complaint against retired assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

Jurors in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, found Spanier not guilty of conspiracy and a second count of child endangerment.

According to multiple reports, first-time offenders such as Spanier face anywhere from probation to a maximum sentence of five years.

He is free on bail until sentencing later this spring. Prosecutors declined to say whether they would seek jail time, and Spanier's lawyer said he would appeal.

Spanier, 68, showed no emotion when the verdict was read after 13 hours of deliberations.

The trial centered on how Spanier and two other university leaders handled a complaint by a graduate assistant who said he saw Sandusky sexually molesting a boy in a team shower in 2001. The school officials told Sandusky he could not bring children onto the campus anymore, but did not report the matter to police or child welfare authorities.
