Get the Criterion bluray to watch the theatrical release of CARNIVAL OF SOULS.

Get the oop Criterion DVD to watch the longer cut, in not as good quality, but it's an interesting alternative.

Is the longer cut just the deleted scenes added back in, the same deleted scenes that are on the blu ray?

No, it's not the deleted scenes, although I haven't compared the two versions that closely. There are many deleted scenes. I think it's an earlier edit before the theatrical cut, but I could be wrong about that. It's about six minutes longer.

Here's a comparison between the two. It seems like a lot of edits are almost just snippets but some are a little lengthy and the edits result in about a 5-minute difference between versions.

I like how there's a tiny brass-knuckle on top of the 'C' logo on the Kiss Me Deadly cover. Is that the only Criterion to have something unique like that?

Do you have any film or films that have been on your wishlist forever and you always say "next sale I'm definitely getting it/them" but when the sale comes, and you end buying other films? For me, that has happened with Kiss Me Deadly, Certified Copy and Kuroneko.

My problem isn't the follow through, but the lack of certain titles at most B&N stores that limits what I get every haul.

I do it every time with the Before trilogy. I've bumped it like 3 or 4 times in a row now. I love all three films, but I always tell myself, "Why buy a trilogy I've seen before when I can get 2 or 3 more blind buys?"

One of these times, I'll finally grab it though because I do love those films.

Can you guys help me identify the horror movies Criterion has released on Blu-Ray? If you filter for horror on their site you get the list of titles below but this isn’t everything I would consider horror in the collection. For example, I would include movies like Salo, Kwaidan, Ugetsu, and Night of the Hunter.

Are there any other movies Criterion has released on Blu-Ray that one might consider horror or give off horror vibes?

Antichrist
The Blob
The Brood
Carnival of Souls
Cat People
Cronos
The Devil’s Backbone
Don’t Look Now
Dressed to Kill
Eraserhead
Eyes Without a Face
House
The Innocents
Island of Lost Souls
kuroneko
The Lure
Night of the Living Dead
Pan’s Labyrinth
Repulsion
Rosemary’s Baby
Seconds
Sisters
The Uninvited
Vampyr
Videodrome

Has anything ever been stated as to Criterion releasing anything from the world cinema project sets as single releases?

I know they did that at least one movie that was in a (not WCP)set with Brief Encounter. I'm sure there are others I just can't think of now.

I think the movies on the WCP sets sounds interesting enough to me to make these sets worth it. So I'm not at all opposed to picking them up.

Every sale I go through this with the Zatoichi boxset.

Autumn Sonata, one of my top three films of all time.

I can't explain why.

And now that I'm considering purchasing the Bergman boxset, it's likely I'll never buy it.

I know The Red Shoes Blu-ray was highly praised upon its release for its picture and audio quality. I believe it was one of the earliest 4K restorations to make it to Blu-ray. However, that was 8 years ago, and I know that there have been advances since then in restoration, scanning, encoding, etc. for Blu-ray. How does the PQ for The Red Shoes Blu-ray compare to the best Criterion Blu-rays today. Does it still hold up in the same way or is it a little less impressive nowadays?
