I have been seeing Steelbooks for Arrival, Clear and Present Danger, Star Trek (2009), Hellboy 2, Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider Cradle of Life in various cheap bins for 6.99. The cheap bins at Shoppers Drug Mart are actually 20-25% off right now too (unadvertised but shows up when ringing up the purchase)

That is cool, but the French kinda ruins it.

However, I see that the US and Canadian editions show four art cards instead of eight in the UK set.

Canada BB Blu

No cigar; 'Soul' 4K Blu-ray $34.99 @ BB

* The price of new 4K Blu releases is high, the price of gasoline keeps getting higher and the price of houses is through the roof. ...All happening across Canada. The times they are a changin', towards higher costs, including Best Buy Canada.

Older catalog Blu-ray titles on Steel cases? Got them all, they can keep the Steel.
New 4K BR releases on Steel cases @ Best Buy? $44.99 no thank you very much; when it comes to movies (medium) I'm about the software (movie showing on the screen), not the hardware (Steel cases showing on the shelves). ...Content.

Some people like both -- content and packaging.

In fact, if you really were just about the content, then you should just stick to streaming and running a NAS.

For me, it is about the content yes. I don't like edited or cut films.

But it is also about the packaging as I like to have a complete package which I can hold in my hands.

Takes up tons of space though.

I was really excitied when I saw this release, until I noticed the price, not happening! I've got all the movies on bluray with the exception of the last 2 which I have in 4k. It's one of my favorite movies as I was just learning to drive when it came out and had just bought my first car so it means a lot to me, but not worth the upgrade at that price!

another good movie, not going to pre-order though. What are they thinking with these prices, are enough people buying them to justify it? It's an old movie we've all seen before, we can wait a few months for it drop to half price lol.

Speed is coming from Disney, and they don't do cheap catalog titles.

It seems that the studios know physical media is a niche product sold mainly to collectors who are willing to shill out a few extra bucks to own their favourite films on disc, so they obviously take advantage of that. The flip side is that if the collector's "vote with their wallets" and don't buy them, the studios will just stop making them. Catch 22 I guess.

True, I still buy them just rarely at full price. If it's a movie I really want to see I will pay the 34.99 but that's very rare for me. Maybe 5 in the last year.

The industry has to much of a history of big discounts to get people paying these new prices.

Sure, but streaming is not always consistent, and the compression ...
@ the end it's what's on your screen that counts, not on the shelves.
That's me.

agreed, I do like having the option of going digital, so I tend to always enter the codes just to have them on Google/Apple TV but I'm also on Cogeco so my internet drops out when the wind blows in certain directions so I will still favour physical (unless the digital is a ridiculously better price ie. LOTR 4k is currently $35 on itunes, and $100+ physical)

This isn’t a productive comment but I can’t help myself: wouldn’t you, of all people, based on your screen name, already own LOTR on 4K?

I guess Best Buy agreed with your sentiment, and lowered the price of the 4K UHD to $25. Amazon Canada has reactively matched that new price.

I just bought it.

Best Buy Canada follows Amazon Canada prices on their 4K Blu-rays (some).
If not they are always price matching (LOTR 4K BR trilogy: $89.99 back @ Christmas).

No, you got it backwards. Amazon is always playing catch up with Best Buy. Amazon for items without that competitions can be terrible with their crazy pricing algorithms.

Best Buy rarely changes their stated pricing due to others, BUT has a great price matching policy (as your example with the LOTR case). You do have to act for that.

BTW, I’m kicking myself for going with Amazon with Soul 4K and other pre-orders this time around. Best Buy makes things a bit more difficult with their free shipping over 35 and using the slow and untracked Canada Post Lettermail...

Ok, you seem to be experienced. I thought Amazon Canada was a general trend leader on prices in our country.

Anyway, good for Soul (us) @ both Best Buy & Amazon Canada today and for a week.

I just bought Soul 4K from Amazon. My first 4K Disney/PIXAR film. (Still don't have a 4K set-up though )

Also, BB has Onward 4K for $19.99, but Amazon hasn't matched it yet. (Man, I wish I didn't buy the standard Blu-ray when it first came out )
https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...combo/M2232254

All four Toy Story 4Ks are $19.99, but some are already sold out.

Thanks for posting. I'm holding off, as I'd like to see exactly what kind of packaging the regular version is going to be. Looking to avoid the cardboard sleeves (See: Back to the Future 4K regular release)
