North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks announced on Saturday that it acquired Gainax's science-fiction adventure anime Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water. The 39-episode 1990-1991 series will be "available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release on bilingual DVD & BD to follow."

Sentai describes the story:

The World's Fair, Paris, 1889: a young inventor crosses paths with an enigmatic girl and her pet lion. Suddenly they find themselves pursued by a villainous trio intent upon stealing the magical Blue Water. Thus begins an epic adventure inspired by Jules Verne's masterpiece 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Join Nadia and Jean as they travel the high seas in search of Nadia's homeland and her past, their only clue the mysterious jewel Nadia wears. Can they unravel the Secret of the Blue Water before it is too late? Discover Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water, the animated series beloved by millions, and find out for yourself!

The staff featured director Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion, His and Her Circumstances), character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Royal Space Force - The Wings of Honnęamise, Evangelion, Summer Wars), sound director Katsunori Shimizu (Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee, Fushigi Yugi), and musical composer Shiro Sagisu (Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Evangelion).

The anime was previously released on video tape by Streamline Pictures, and on video tape and DVD by ADV Films.

Excited that we're finally getting an English-friendly Nadia on Blu-ray, but not so excited it's coming from Sentai as it means the chances of a nice-looking box are practically 0.001% likely.

Might as well pre-order from now, in case the price suddenly drops.
Whaddya know: price has already dropped to ¥27,017, or ¥28,117 with shipping to mainland US.

Hello everyone. I have a mint copy of the Region 1 US release of Jin-Roh on blu-ray complete and was wondering if anyone had any idea as to its worth. I figured this would be a good place to ask. There's a gentleman selling a copy on ebay right now for an exorbitant sum ($1200!) and I realize that although it's rare, there is no way it is worth that much. Any help is appreciated.

$150-$250 was the average going for range a year or two ago. I off loaded my Japanese set to get the US set from someone here a little while back for $150, which was mint condition physically but just missing the obi strip.

I'm pretty sure To Love Ru will not have an English dub.

As far as I know Sentai have never released a blu without an English dub. I know they have released dvd's as sub only though. If I'm wrong let me know though.

Jin-Roh is getting a re-release on BD next year by Discotek so you'll want to sell it before that's released as the value on the Bandai Visual set will tank. I don't know how much it's selling for now though.

They are releasing three sub-only BDs in December which are Humanity Has Declined, Sakurasou, and So I Can't Play H.

Taisho Baseball Girls in January is sub-only too.

I do really like seeing them releasing sub-only anime Blu-rays over here, especially if they are titles that would never be released otherwise because of the added expense of a dub. Dubs are ok, and are useful if I want to show an anime to friends who are not generally into anime, but I still prefer watching most anime subbed because the dialog and vocal inflections usually fit much better.

I'll probably get most of these, eventually - wallet allowing!

You are correct. Out of Sentai's March titles, To Love Ru & Pet Girl of Sakurasou Collection 2 will be subtitle only.
