Take a look at Criterion's closet visits. Lots of artists pick DVDs, not Blu-rays.

You know, when you go to a Ford dealership, some of the customers are there to buy a sedan and some are there to buy a pickup. Just because some Criterion customers won't buy 4K doesn't mean they wouldn't make money from the ones who would.

God, I hope so. It's one of my favorites, but I'm not about to pay for a copy of the OOP Kino release.

Criterion already puts more effort into film restoration than any other label and since most of their effort goes into older films any format beyond bluray becomes irrelevant.

Anything shot on 35mm can be scanned and presented at 4k. How is it irrelevant?

Doesn’t mean the 35mm film is in good conditions. Sometimes it would require hours of dirt, scratch and rip removals.

There's a cost factor in releasing UHD's that can't be ignored. How do they do this? Do they release UHD's on their own? A combo with Blu-Ray? Customers didn't like the combo's with DVD/Blu-Ray. Why would this be different? Are people going to want to spend $10-$20 more for UHD?

I don't know the answers. But these are things that Criterion is considering, along with many other factors I'm sure.

Sure, but that applies just the same to Blu-ray. Restoration and resolution are independent considerations.

I would think they are related. The higher resolution you are presenting at, the more work there is in restoration because of the greater clarity.
