I wait until I watch them before I open them. It's smart if you ask me.

I have 32 still sealed.

When I purchase movies, I'm getting them for any one, or a combination of these reasons: I like the film, I want to see the film, I respect the film, I think the film belongs in my collection. Because of this, I always open the movies right away, as there's little to no chance I'll want to get rid of them. I think in the 13 years I've collected DVDs and Blu-rays, I've only sold one off that I didn't want (Wedding Crashers).

I think my number of still sealed sits around 5 or 6. They're usually whatever I impulse buy at Walmart and don't have a huge urge to watch immediately

I have always opened them. Honestly don't see a reason not to. Also, with the horror stories I have seen or heard of, I make it a mission to always open everything even if its a present for someone.

A funny story:

My buddy purchased a new Xbox 360 from EB Games (GameStop). He did not open it for two months due to a vacation and work getting in the way. When he finally opened it he found a Xbox, no not a Xbox 360 but the original Xbox. EB Games did not do a thing for him. Safe to say he was pissed.

Only have one...the Eureka steelbook edtion of Cleopatra. No real reason, just figured I'd wait until I had time to immerse myself in it. I generally open titles right away. I also gently take all the stickers (store/pricing stickers) off the shrinkwrap and place them on the cover....especially the Criterion titles. (I know that there are a few on here that would be mortified at that proposition! ).

I do that too, but for Criterion titles only.

not at all, i feel if you buy too many movies and you have to keep them sealed, and if you can't watch all you bought, they you have bought too many movies at once
also even my limited items are open cause I wanted to see the inside of the item, and the booklets and all

I have about 250 of my 400 plus collection sealed.
Just never get around to watching them, most of them are upgrades from dvds i owned in the past, i like to collect them but rarely revisit them.

Same here... There's always someone who comments like that about such topics in a snide manner... Sometimes not having the free time that apparently many others have works out better for me, I had a Copy of the transformers animated movie DVD a couple years back and for whatever reason never got around to opening and watching it, I check amazon values and it was going for about $120... Sealed... Much less opened... I list it, sell it, take part of the money and buy the UK blu for about $20 bucks...

Made a tidy profit and got the movie on better format. I buy movies to watch them, not collect... But I don't feel the need to open all them immediately.

All of mine. I have a professional sealing machine that seals my movies back up after I watch them. That way I can always have that "it's a brand new Blu-ray!" feeling every time I want to watch something.

I open them when I get home, then I take care of any stickers and whatnot.

First thing I do when I buy a Blu-ray is tear it open (sometimes before I even get home). Actually watching the contents is a whole other thing

Main reason I do this is I like to spot check. Quick glance at the PQ. Nothing really impresses me anymore: new movies are supposed to look awesome; older films are hit or miss, depending on the depth of the pockets of the label releasing it. I remove all stickers, useless inserts and other junk right away. Replace flimsy eco-packs with sturdier older cases I've saved. Spot check all the extras. Sometimes I end up watching the entire disc if I get caught up enough in spot-checking it but I'm more of a "in-the-mood-to-watch-a-(insert genre)-film right-now" type.
