picked up the last copy at frys. eh I do not really know what to say.
maybe that I am just astounded at picture quality, this is flawless and spectacular. This is my disc to show off Blu-ray. the whole thing is just mesmerizing and I feel transfixed to the screen. (no drugs either!) my thanks go out to everybody involved in this, even down to the fact that this is the first disc to contain a booklet inside for me that does not advertise. this is quality at its best, you now have a new happy loyal customer. |

Guess someone already have posted this but it does not hurt re-posting. This title is region-free and plays in all Blu-ray players.

RB Films did a fantastic job on this.
Not only the beautiful photography, editing, digital effects and music, but the compression and authoring of the disc itself. This is one to show off to friends and family. ![]() It's a shame that their producer had to endure some of the abuse that the red-ant crowd and their high priest threw at him. I don't think I would have had the patience for that. Anyway, everyone should give this disc a look because it really pushes the envelope on quality! It is content worthy of the Blu-ray format. |

Video can't exceed 40Mbps peak on BD. The total maximum BD Audio+Video bitrate is 48Mbps. If PS3 says it's doing 50Mbps for video, it's lying. (Yes, I know live bitrate meters can't really display accurate numbers with these types of codecs but this seems way off.)

Nature's Journey is beautiful. Even my almost 8 yr old son was enthralled and sat through the entire showing. Something to be said here... the boy will not sit down in one place for more than 5 min - unless it is Club Penguin on the computer or an animated flick on Blu-Ray. Thanks to Rich Casey and to all those involved in the production of Nature's Journey. Rup. |

Same here. Had to go to 2 Fry's to find one. Now there are 2 Fry's around here without one.
![]() By the way, while the sales associate and I were going through all the boxes under the shelves, we saw at least 6 HD-DVDs. What a waste for those ungrateful bastards. I hope RBFilms won't release any more products for them. ![]() enjoy gandalf ![]() |

Just chiming in here with the praise! Received the disc on Saturday (I live in Norway so it was imported from the US).
Fantastic picture quality and the DTS HD-MA was just....SUPERB! Definitely a reference quality release that I will use to show off Blu-ray to friends and family. Big kudos to the crew behind the the film and the BD version. |

I'm at a loss here.
Is this the biggest case of the emporer is wearing no clothes to come to Blu-ray? I saw this disc the other day on my friend's 1080p JVC HD2K projector (which has incredible optics and true 1080p playback). The image quality of this disc could best be desribed as "good, but not great". Most images were distractingly soft, and some looked on par with good DVD upconversion. A few images were highly detailed and sharp, but that was the exception rather than the norm. I was hoping for something that would set a reference 1080 image. The content (ie not the fault of the disc encoding) was a far cry from any "reference" HD material. I'm sure that the bit-rates afforded on Blu-ray can make a difference. But I don't think that the soft, filtered, processed image of Nature's Journey is the video content worthy of revealing those benefits. |

Fourth attempt to post here, so I hope it's good enough this time.
This release was supposed to be the great opportunity to show how important bit-rate is. Only problem is – it doesn’t! There ARE differences between the formats, but even where they are visible at all, they are tiny and only readily seen when magnified. Don’t know about you, but I don’t watch films with a magnifying glass. This won’t be lost on any HD supporter, who ought to be chuffed that their format can do so well with so much lower bit-rate. The eager anticipation in this thread over a dual release that would really do justice to BD seems to have evaporated, and we now seem to have a liability on our hands. NJ seems to have proven HD’s assertion that it is “good enough” after all. But perhaps there are reasons why NJ is not a great advertisement for BD after all. The pictures shown in the comparison links look very detailed, but pretty static to me, and the HD bit-rate is probably more than enough to capture everything. To me, when video compression falls short, it’s usually when there’s lots of motion and not so much detail or contrast. Then you can see noise and blocking, especially in shadows and areas with uniform colour and brightness. You can see it in most films, but it looks like NJ isn’t the sort of material to show it up. Moreover, these artefacts are mostly visible with video, not stills. Subject detail seems to be retained at the expense of backgrounds with most codecs, and with these screenshots, we are generally looking for details. I think that’s probably the wrong place to look if you want to see differences. The other thing that may affect the value of using NJ is that it’s interlaced video, rather than progressive. There are more and more players and displays that can handle 1080p24 without having any unnecessary video processing stages, like scaling, frame rate conversion and especially de-interlacing. These all tend to degrade the PQ in one way or another, and none more so than de-interlacing. Although many displays can handle 1080p24, or perform 3:2 pull-down on 1080i60, that is no use for NJ because it was interlaced at source rather than interlaced for distribution. That means you need really good motion-adaptive video processing to show it to maximum effect. Most displays don’t have that, and will consequently lose half the potential resolution, as they do with HDTV. That may explain why some people have said NJ looks soft. I haven’t seen it yet, and I’m sure it’s NOT soft, but if that’s what people see, then they will never see any benefit from higher bit-rates. I suspect that the best way to make differences clear is to play two simultaneous videos. Beg, steal or borrow an HDDVD player (I know, I know…) and hook both up a top notch display and judge it by the seat of your pants. David - what was the source and what were the settings? That can make all the difference. Nick |
