I don't have a favorite Western or one for any other gentry for that matter but Unforgiving is certainly one of the best. Sure wish they would release Open Range. and do a better job with Tombstone. I wish Clint would direct one more western before hes done.

If it wasn't Martin Scorsese's turn to win Best Picture for "The Departed" in 2006, Clint should have got his 3rd film to win the Best Pic. Oscar for Iwo Jima.
This probably would have been the case, had "GoodFellas" beaten "Dances With Wolves" to Best Picture 1990… Which should have happened.

"Babel" was also up in 2006 (Alejandro González Iñárritu's (Birdman, The Revenant) 1st film up for an Oscar) and is arguably better than "The Departed" and as good as "Letters From Iwo Jima".

Anyhow, what I'd really like to know is how bad the DNR is on this 2006 BD transfer relic?

I haven't seen a lot of the older pre-1980s Westerns, but for me nothing has beaten Unforgiven. Hell it's one of my favorite films...period.

Being one of the first Blu titles, this is about ready for a new transfer...but since next year is the 25th Ann that would be the soonest I imagine.

I have so rarely paid full price for any title in my 1,000-plus disc library that doing so is akin to the chances of Carrot Top giving an acceptance speech for his Best Actor Oscar.

For an "Unforgiven," release with an up-to-date presentation and worthy supplements -- don't even talk about a 4K release; I'd probably break out in a rash -- I would pay full MSRP and have that sucker pre-ordered the moment it's announced.

"Innocent of what?!"

" 'Deserve's got nothin' to do with it."

"He shoulda' armed himself."

"I was building a house."

So many great lines. So many near-perfect gems of small, meaningful character moments.

Love this film.

And I, too, also salivate in anticipation of hearing the gunfire in "Open Range" in lossless sound, as well.

You should import the DE release. I did this a year ago and it looks and sounds great.

Or if you're region locked, the French BD of Open Range is region free.

I think Unforgiven is Clint's defining film as a director. It's hard for me to pick a favorite or say one or another is the best or better, but Unforgiven is near perfect by the merits. It is also working on a meta level where the connection between the Clint, The William Money character and the story is slightly allegorical for his career at that point. It loads an already great screenplay up with added meaning.

Million Dollar works in the same way too, but it's Unforgiven that remains the most iconic to me, at least outside The Man With No Name stuff.

If you can find me a copy of the steelbook version of this for cheaper than what Amazon France is asking for it I will let you be friends with my cat for 10 minutes.

Amazon UK and Germany won't deliver this to the US.

I heard there is a version with lossless audio? I think I found it, but it seems like $25 is pretty steep for lossless audio on a catalog item.
