Canada Decided to quit smoking

So decided to quit smoking again - stopped on Wednesday April 10, 2013. This is the third time I quit since my original post back in 2009 lasted 3-4 weeks that time, tried last Spring (2012) went 60 days, both times Cold Turkey. I have no doubts about the success of this effort due to the fact that I have a crutch - a substitute for tobacco - "Vaping" Along with the health benefits, vaping has significant cost benefits. While there was a modest start up cost, the monthly costs will be well under $50 probably closer to $20-30 compare that to between $200-250 per month for smoking this is going to be a win win.

Congrats! Three whole days already, eh? Quitting smoking is one of the toughest things to do, and I commend you for wanting to do so! I'll be rooting for your success Luc!

I hope you can stop. I really hate the smell of those things. Quitting a habit is always hard to do, but when you are really ready you will stop.

I use to drink alot, not really a drunk or a alcoholic but I use to put’em down.
When I was diagnosed with Gout and the Doctor told me it may be from drinking I quit without thinking about it... Several years later I find out the liquor or beer had nothing to do with my Gout attack, I may have something every once in awhile(maybe once or twice a year)

So does that mean I really quit?

I quit back in July and I know some people hate hearing this but it was FAR easier than I thought. I did have several lame attempts at it in the past but this time I was ready. If you want to quit, if you're tired of everything smelling like smoke, if you're tired of spending the money, if you're tired of hacking stuff up and coughing, then it's a cake walk. I had a few days in the beginning where I had nervous energy but I didn't have any to smoke and just avoided buying them. Smoked for 18 years and the wife and I quit cold turkey and haven't looked back.

I quit yrs ago.

Not a easy habit to break but with determination and hard work you can do it.

I quit last July cold turkey. Haven't smoked since. Used to smoke a pack of red every two days.

I don't miss it at all. It's nothing but will power.

Quitting is all mental. You have to really be prepared for it. Even when there's temptation you have to say no.

The best way to think of it? You know that feeling you get that it's ok and everything is normal when you smoke? How relaxed and calm you get? Well, people who don't smoke feel that way all the time.

It's a great decision you've made to quit smoking. It's a nasty habit, and I'm behind you all the way.

I cannot be more proud of you for quitting smoking. I do not smoke and it causes me deep pain to see people - especially my friends - smoking themselves into an early grave. I have two friends who have asthma. They still smoke despite doctors insisting that they quit. As teabaggins mentioned: there are powerful addictive drugs in cigarettes.

As for me, I need to quit drinking diet soda. I need to get more exercise. But I do watch what I eat for the most part. There are times when I slip up and devour a pizza.

In addition to smoking, our diet is high up on the list of contributing factors that can cut our lives short. We rarely thing about what goes down our throat. Fortunately, I love raw veggies. But I also like chicken mcnuggets. At least I don't smoke them.

Anyway...congrats on giving up smoking.

Wow!!!! great support, thanks a lot everyone - never expected such responses, and congrats to all that have quit. I feel that after 40 years of smoking and my many previous attempts at quitting that I now have the resolve to do it this time.

I haven't told any physical being yet that I've quit, (I know, you guys are physical beings too ) but you know what I mean. probably because it's one of those "boy who called wolf" situations where they've heard it before and only expect failure.

Good to see your still smoke free! I've never smoked, but it's clearly an SOB to quit.

Heck, in only a few more days you will have beat the chemical addiction.

Good luck and keep it goin!

Thanks Grumpz appreciate the support and it is an SOB to quit - I'm almost halfway through Day 4 and things are going well. I know someone earlier said not to count the days - but at this stage of the game I have to count them, maybe after awhile it won't matter much. I just need to get around the hurdle in my mind that is saying "I'm missing something" to "I can't believe that I smoked for so long!!"

1st off congrats on your journey.
im a 10 year smoker (im 29) and would love to quit myself.
my problem is i like to smoke in my car & when im on break at work. plus when i drink it goes with smoking hand in hand.
i dont really have an 'urge' for cigs.....its more of 'something to do' or 'out of habit'
im the worst type of smoker cause i could probaly quit at anytime, though ive never tried.

i wish you the best.
one thing i always heard was 'smoke a straw'.
dont light the straw up....but use the straw as having the 'feeling' of smoking. just the action of holding the 'straw' and inhaling it will allow you to quit easier.

and find a hobby QUICKLY as the days will start feeling like months.
keep busy and also try to hang out with NON smokers for the next 2 weeks

good luck my friend. i honestly wish you the best in your journey!!!
