Not over by any means: TOO OLD!

Superman should be no more than 30-35. It's a live action franchise, not a cartoon where it doesn't matter if actors age.

As for Tim Daly I think of him "flying" only on Wings...

Jon Hamm is 38 and you call him old? He has the Superman look down.

Not to mention he's a fantastic actor and people have been screaming for him to play a superhero ever since he became a popular name.

Oh and Robert Downey Jr. is 44 and is playing a character that is supposed to be a young playboy. Downey looks and can play the character.

Hamm can do that too and he's 38 which is a a decent age.

He's 38 now (39 next week), so if they started shooting tomorrow he's be 40 when post-production finally finishes his bluescreen shots.

Then factor in 3 years between films, he'd be 46 when the third of the trilogy finishes.

I'm being realistic here. I like Jon Hamm, he's a fine actor.
He's not old, but he is too old to start a franchise, a big factor why Routh was cast.

Doesn't look like a "young playboy" to me. Downey looks like a perfect age. Plus he's masked and in a suit of armor, not unforgiving tights.

Keep in mind that's an Iron Man deep into the Iron Man mythos where he's established.

Christian Bale is only a couple of years younger than Hamm and he's doing fine with the role. Hamm's age has no weight on his role, he still looks young and is in good shape. Superman is supposed to look like a grown man, intimidating and around his mid 30s.

But then again you might want some teeny bopper who would ruin the series.

Keep in mind it's not an origin type of movie, Superman is pretty established in this movie so it would be probably in early-to mid years of crime fighting.

It is funny that we have our own ideas for how old Superman should be when we don't know how he should be portrayed according to the script. Superman could be old, young, somewhere in between. I think Hamm is a fine age for the role but maybe it is a younger Superman

Well, looks like Warner is serious.

There's already a pirated teaser making the rounds. Probably to attract investors since Time/Warner's publicly owned. Official public debut at ComicCon?

Just looked at "Jon Hamm" in google images since I had no idea who he was or what he looked like...dude is definitely too old to start a Superman franchise, especially if it's another origin story. Maybe if it was a continuation of the original story.

Since Superman is sort of established in this proposed idea, any means of origin would be told through flashbacks and will probably use a young actor. Mostly for his smallville scenes.

Well, he definitely has the look...he still looks a little too old in the shots I saw, but they could probably fix that with makeup and lighting.

With today's technology if a character looks slightly old they can make him look younger. And most films require the actor to wear make up so he'll fit the part. Great actor.

it would be cool if they did a period Metropolis with a Golden Age Superman.

Mad Men + Superman...?

Routh hasn't been officially confirmed as out has he??

I know his contract option is up, but I think he did a pretty good job of being Kent/Superman. Wasn't as good as Reeve, but with a better script and his acting maturity I don't see him as a bad choice for the next film.

Thanks

I've been reading that people want to see this guy in the role of Kal-El.

After watching him in THOSE tights, it would be VERY DIFFICULT to take him seriously in ANY tights.

All I have to say about the "Superman" reboot at this point can be summed up in ten words: Keep Jon Peters, and those like him, away from it. That guy is completely nuts, as I learned from reading the book "Superman vs. Hollywood" (which I'd recommend to any fan, seriously), and the last thing this character needs after all the false starts (and "Returns" grossing $100 million less than expected) is yet another filmmaker not taking the core integrity of Kal-El seriously. Donner messed up on a couple of things in his films, but he respected the overall legend (for the most part), which is why those movies still work. We don't need another imbecile trying to "reinvent" (a.k.a. "screw up") the story for a "modern" (a.k.a. "politically correct") audience. In the new movie, Supes needs to be brought back to being someone humanity can admire, respect, and seek to emulate (no, not on a computer).
