Just preordered my copy of To Kill A Mockingbird. Can't wait! The trailer looked excellent.

This was one of those cases where I was 95% sure of the outcome but would've been BEYOND pleased to be proved wrong. Sadly, Universal delivers almost exactly what I was expecting. Granted, DVDBeaver's screen caps aren't the best to go on so I'm hoping the transfer looks slightly better without the softening.

But still, Universal....UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGH.

So, they make $500 000 4K master, but they still don't know how to create a nice transfer of it.

Really useful, Universal.

Now I'm going to have to check the broadcast HD version to see how they compare on grain.

Hmmm, none too happy about this. Ah well, not buying it will save me a few bucks.

I guess the studio won't care if a few of us 'picky' viewers don't buy it, as most of the general public won't notice or won't care.

This edition of Mockingbird on blu-ray will still be an improvement over my non-anamorphic PAL DVD, but not by nearly as much as I was hoping. Deeply disappointing.

But perhaps not surprising given the track record of the studio. Should have guessed that they would make a mess of it - they are of course only doing this to satisfy the great unwashed majority who will of course moan when they see film grain.

Hard to tell as the screenshots aren't the same size at the beaver site, but the 2005 dvd almost appears to have more film grain.

One of the main purposes of blu-ray is to make it look as close to film quality as possible.

Excessive DNR does not accomplish this at all.

Maybe I'm the only one around here who watches films just to watch films any more... For all those years, the PQ of the VHS and the DVD never interfered with my enjoyment of this and other movies... not sure why it's any different now... or why you would boycott the release of a film that I know you love...

Turning into Beta Man with all these ellipses...

just for the record, I'm a 'picky' viewer and I'm buying it as it will still be the best the film has looked even if it don't meet your standards

In which case what's the point of buying a movie on Blu-ray? Let's all go back to VHS and watch the movies that way ............

Don't people buy movies on Blu-ray for better video and sound quality that is as close to the original source as possible? If the studio then messes up the transfer doesn't it defeat the object of the exercise?

Agreed. Love the film, want to own it, this is most likely the best it has ever looked on home video, therefore I'll still get it even if I'm a bit disappointed. A transfer that isn't quite top notch will not make me stick to the DVD and I'm not expecting this to get another release or remaster any time soon.
