Yeah, it really depends on what Nintendo needs for space.
The only thing I am curious about is online play and how they will work that. I see they showed off the new Call of Duty game, as that is a major multiplayer game, how will it work on wii U? Once that is confirmed to work well, then I will most likely get it. |

I wouldn't even bother with the basic $300 model. They should have priced this at $249 basic/$299 deluxe. That gamepad is basically just a DS screen super-sized. Even some cheap <$100 tablets can do multi-touch. $349 creates a mental barrier for some people, add a game and tax and you're well over $400. Too much, IMO. Positives so far -
- 1080p - Lossless sound output 6 channels - Nintendo TVii - HDMI - wii game compatible... - SSD storage drive - Bayonetta 2 - Negatives - multi-touch screen(not sure it bugs me but others mention it) - Exclusive titles limited - low res screen on controller - small storage space - TBD - upconvert wii games? - Launch Titles worth getting? - Keep adding to this... At best $250 is my price point on this, that being for the deluxe version so don't see this for at least another 2 years probably at best. I can see the initial gotta have it on launch right before X-mas rush deplete supply, but after that it could go downhill possibly quick without raving word of mouth on this since I don't see this system as geared toward the "casual" crowd like the Wii was. Agree the price point on this should have been 250/300 at launch. The $300 for the basic is just plain crazy to say the least.
My biggest issue/concern is how much of this multiplayer game scenarios like in Mario and Nintendoland will be playable online? If it is not EVERYTHING can be played online then this is definitely not for me as the only multiplayer I do is online. Will have to wait and see obviously. |

Eek, that software list is anemic for those who already own a PS3/360.
A desire for 3 titles, one of which (Mario) is the only one I'd say is an absolute must have for me. Price point is way too high anyways for me considering the graphical abilities. |

I am not really hung up on the price. $300 or $350 is no big deal.
I also expect Xbox 720 and PS4 to be in the $500+ range when released. I am not going to buy one until I also find out about the multiplayer information for all games. I am also very disappointed in them not announcing more top tier games at release. I really love the new controller and I wouldn't mind sony or microsoft do something like that... but I can't buy one of these without the games making me want to play it. I haven't turned on my xbox for over a year for the exact same reason. Nothing worth playing on it(and I can't sell it because wife likes kinect). The only thing that is a win here is that Nintendo does have the best console available for at least a year. If the same games came out for it and a few top tier titles make it stand out, then I could see people buying it at least until word of 720 and ps4 come out. |

They have to push the envelope and in order to do that, it means cost. Perhaps I am in the minority, but for me... the reason why PS3 is the best system of the past few years is because they went for the higher priced unit to begin with. They have the most features and I hope they also learned that all those great features were awesome but they didn't include enough core memory which was their only downfall. At the time of release they had blu-ray, blutooth, 1080p(xbox got that via patch later and released new hdmi unit), hdmi, lossless sound(wii U has that now), etc... PS4 will have to build on that to be successful. Offering those features(which are cheap) and give us 2013 technology that is rare as they did with the launch of ps3. It might get people not buy it on launch day, but in 2-3 years when the product price drops due to technology being cheaper, then they would have made the right move. If the next generation comes out as good as top of the line PC (multiple monitor support, 60fps on those higher resolutions, shaders, proper textures, fine filters etc)... then I would be willing to pay a lot more than $500 with the right features. |

For its North American release in 1985, the NES was released in two different configurations, or "bundles". The console deck itself was identical, but each bundle was packaged with different game paks and accessories. The first of these sets, the Control Deck, retailed from US$199.99 (equivalent to US$406 today), and included the console itself, two game controllers, and a Super Mario Bros. game cartridge. The second bundle, the Deluxe Set, retailed for US$249.99 (equivalent to US$508 today), and consisted of the console, a R.O.B. accessory, an NES Zapper (electronic gun), and two game paks: Duck Hunt and Gyromite. |

I don't really understand this concern with price. $500 is not a lot of money these days.
I am going on vacation next week and one of the cities I am staying in the CHEAPEST hotel I could find in downtown core was $210 a night! Two nights and I have a Wii U. Not saying we all have same budgets but it shouldn't be a big deal, IF it is a good product. Now the Wii U might not be a good enough product for $350. That being said, if it is (which no one knows yet) then it will be worth it. I also want to point out that I haven't bought a smart phone or monthly data plan in my life... I refuse to due to the $50+ a month fees or spend $200+ on a cell... so I am not someone that just throws money away. LOL Last edited by TheZoof; 09-13-2012 at 08:20 PM. |
