Didn't he make Alien³?

Alien³ is not a bad movie. Maybe you are thinking of Alien Ressurection.

I love all his movies that I've seen so far. I wanted to see Tree of Life, but the only theater that showed it in my city was a crappy 35mm theater stuck to the mall. Well, I guess I can wait for the Blu-ray. I do hope though, that the 6-hour version sees the light of day.

I like how this blu-ray will have the "flashing icon every 15 minutes" option in the top-right corner of the screen to wake up the viewer.

I beg to differ when it comes to The Game. Alien 3 and Panic Room are really bad as well.

Yes, it's really bad. It doesn't work well as a thriller. It tries to ground itself in reality, but then you have people getting smashed in the face full force with a sledge hammer, gets knocked down a story, only to rise up 30 seconds later and move as if it was a little slap in the face. Don't get me started on the excessive amount of yellow filters Fincher uses in this (he uses it in almost every film, but here he just goes overboard with it).

It's a mind-numbingly stupid movie. And before you say it, I'm no Fincher hater. I love Zodiac and The Social Network, and I like Se7en quite a bit, though my enjoyment deteriorates with each subsequent viewing. I'm just pointing out that he does have bad films, this one probably being the worst (it's a toss up with The Game, really.)

I don't think Panic Room is trying to ground itself in reality very much. You have the camera moving through a coffee machine (and several other shots that are clearly impossible), how is that realistic? Fincher was very much going for a more stylized approach here, much like Hitchcock often did.

The technical aspects of the film don't change whether it's grounded in reality or not. The idea of a mother and daughter being trapped in a panic room while three robbers are trying to get them has to be grounded in a reality to a degree. I know Fincher labeled it as a "popcorn movie," but it doesn't help that the protagonist would only behave in the most inept way possible (e.g. when she's talking to the cop.) Popcorn movie or not, it's still laughably bad.

Don't want to continue talking about a subject that is completely unrelated to the topic at hand.

Yeah, there's been more in depth discussion of David Fincher than there has Terrence Malick on this thread. I guess no one wants to actually talk about the movie? I posted a few observations/questions on the last page in hopes we'd get back to an actual discussion.
I'm sure we'll get 50 more posts like this:

"Holding out for the eventual Criterion release"
or
"This movie is boring"
or
"Your stupid if you think this movie is boring."

Ah, when I clicked it earlier Amazon didn't have a date posted.

Anyways, I'm glad we're getting this sooner rather than later. I was worried it would get shelved until December so it would be a little more popular and fresh with Academy voters.
