Getting way OT here, but thought I'd pass on that ImportCDs is having a sale on folk/americana CD box sets. I picked up a couple of UK folk sets for half what they are selling for on Amazon. Very attractive prices on Bear Family releases too.

I just finished my very first interaction with Import CDs and I am more than happy. I ordered The Saphead from them Monday night and it was delivered with this morning's mail. It showed up in a thin corrugated cardboard packaging and the slip box looks fine...I haven't cracked it open yet, but don't foresee any issues. And this is a title, technically not due out for another 10 days. With the 10% code, I got it for $19.54...and that includes shipping. Easily $7-$8 cheaper than Amazon. And they provided tracking for both DHL (beginning of shipping route) and USPS (end of route and delivery).

I'm a believer!

I just received a package from ImportCDs too! Everything came in perfect condition the only funny thing is they included a DeepDiscount flyer in the package advertising the bi-annual 25% off sale which expired on 6/24.

Damn, I was hoping I could pre-order Force of Evil and Body and Soul today to get the additional 10% off.

I am placing an order on importcd's website but have a question. Most of the Olive BDs I ahve in my cart are in stock but one is in stock and two are mid july preorders. Will they wait until all are available in mid july before shipping or do they ship as they become available?

Thanks,
Tom

I've placed several orders mixed with pre-orders and titles in stock, they'll ship the in stock items right away and the pre-orders later, usually a couple days before release date. No extra charge for ship as they become available.

Yeah, they're a buch of stuff I want that release July 31 and in August - they have a good price for Forever Marilyn ($64.09), it would be terrific to get 10% off, and then I want Rio Grande & Johnny Guitar Aug. 7. But they don't open upcoming releases for pre-order until 4 weeks before release day. Hopefully they'll do a sale again in July.

The DD 25% sale also got extended to June 30, apparently after they printed the flyer.

Reviews are up at the Beaver for Force of Evil and Body and Soul.

Force of Evil looks particularly impressive.

I just pre-ordered 'Force of Evil' & 'Body and Soul' Blu-rays from DVDPlanet. Both are $17.43 a piece, $1.99 S/H and NO SALES TAX as opposed to Amazon's $24.99 a piece and now me being charged sales tax in Texas.

importcds is one of the most reliable etailers on the net I have dealt with.
I have made a ton of orders from them over the past few years, and only had one item that had an issue.
I don't understand all the hate DD gets. I've done enough orders with them over the years to know that statistically they seem to deliver 99% of their packages in a completely trouble free manner. Now I'm sure they are awful at handling the 1% that goes wrong, but I could just write off the "bad" orders entirely and still make out way ahead when taking advantage of DD at the right times (i.e. when they have coupons, sales, etc).

Besides, they might have the same "owners", but be comlpetely separate in terms of their operations. Different management, different warehouses, different logistics processes, etc. I know I saw discussions somewhere that the same parent company owns SEVERAL different online sellers, and each one of them basically has their own separate fulfillment process. So it makes sense that the service might not be identical between them.

I guess one could question why they wouldn't look to "consolidate" their operations to cut costs and maybe improve service across the board, but there must be a good reason.

DD certainly has had it's ups and down during its existence but it's also changed ownership a number of times during its life. Most of the problems I recall people having occurred during the end of the previous ownership. Since SuperD took over I don't recall hearing about a lot of negative reviews. However, I think a lot of the negativity still exists from the fallout of the previous ownership and those customers vowing never to order from them again. I've had good experiences with DD but then again I didn't order during that one rough patch of time.

A few years ago, I stopped ordering from them (due to a order taking months) until I ordered the Godard films from Olive Films through them last month. A pre-order that arrived weeks before they came out. Was very shocked, and have ordered again from them since. I agree, they have changed and have shipped things quicker than Amazon lately.

How is importcds getting away with selling these Olive titles for $15 and Amazon is selling them for $25? Just curious.

NEWS:
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=9066

Quote:
Independent distributors Olive Films have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray four films directed by George Sherman and starring John Wayne, Ray Corrigan, and Max Terhune: Overland Stage Raiders (1938), The Night Riders (1939), Red River Range (1938), and Three Texas Steers (1939). The preliminary release date for all four films is October 2.

Overland Stage Raiders

Soon after gold shipments from a mining town are hijacked, the Three Mesquiteers buy a plane to fly the gold out. The owner of the shipping line brings in Eastern gangsters to thwart them. Overland Stage Raiders marks the final film appearance of legendary silent star Louise Brooks (Pandora's Box, Diary of a Lost Girl).

The Night Riders

Talbot (George Douglas) uses a phony land grant to rule thirteen million acres, taxing everyone heavily and evicting those who won't pay. The Three Mesquiteers becomes mysterious "night riders" to fight this evil.

Red River Range

The Cattlemen's Association has called in the Mesquiteers to find cattle rustlers. They get Tex Riley to pose as Stony so Stony can arrive posing as a wanted outlaw. This gets Stony into the gang of rustlers and he alerts Tucson and Lullaby as to the next raid. But Hartley is on hand and unknown to anyone is the rustler's boss and he joins the posse with a plan that will do away with the Mesquiteers.

Three Texas Steers

Nancy Evans (Carole Landis), lovely circus owner, has a ranch that she's never visited, but for sentimental reasons won't sell to Mike Abbott. Her partners, secretly in league with Abbott, sabotage the circus to force Nancy to sell the ranch; instead, she goes there to live. Will her neighbors, the Three Mesquiteers, be a match for the secret swindlers? And what's so valuable about that run-down ranch anyway?

I'd watch anything with Louise Brooks in it. (Love her in Pandora's Box)

Great News.

Maybe it costs importcds less than $15 or maybe they're selling them at a slight loss to garner more traffic. Just because a site is selling it for more doesn't mean that's the retailers cost is anywhere near the asking price. Besides a lot of Olive titles were originally listed for around $20 when they first went up for preorder on Amazon. Amazon just tends to raise the price after that.

very excited about the Three Mequiteers Wayne films, but why in the world would they be separate releases?
they are only like 50 minute films?
sure hope they aren't planning on selling those for $24 a pop.
Wayne plays the lead in 8 of them; wonder if the other 4 will come out also.
