We all know that Christopher Lee is supposed to have a big "booming" voice but from the LPCM Mono track on Rasputin i do not get that impression at all. Once again i don't know if this a technical limitation from the set, but in any case Hammer could've done so much better!
It's like they just spend all their time and money on the transfer and merely added the audio track as an afterthought... |

The audio sounds fine to me. No problems like with Rasputin. I'll give it a 4 out of 5. In case you're wondering, the "Hammer Trailers" extra contains 2 trailers for The Mummy's Shroud, one unrestored and one restored. 1 unrestored double feature trailer for Rasputin and The Reptile. 3 trailers for The Devil Rides out, 1 a black and white TV trailer, an unrestored US theatrical trailer and a restored trailer which gives a glimpse of some of the new effects work. The new effects work on The Devil Rides Out is very tastefully done. No new CGI spiders, for example, if that's what some of you are worried about. They just fixed some of the matte lines in some scenes and added effects that were intended originally but never done due to time or budget. I think it's a superior version. There's no reason why a DVD should sound better than a BD. There's no way that they only had a track with no bass to work with. |

Thanks for info! Is the dialog at least clear for RASPUTIN? I want to blind buy it. Most likely won't keep it anyway.

The bad audio is very noticeable in the opening. The 20th Century Fox Fanfare and the main title score track sound particularly bad. Tinny might be a good word to describe it. However, dialog is clear throughout and to be honest I kind of forgot about the audio issue about 10 minutes in. To my ears it does improve a bit.

Watching Rasputin now and the audio is pretty bad. I did notice if you switch to the commentary track, the difference is quite amazing. During the gaps in commentary, you can really hear how better it sounds. Hammer should look into it, but I expect this is what we'll be stuck with.

Hammer films I would love to see on Blu Ray:
The Satanic Rites of Dracula Dracula AD 1972 Doctor Jekyll and Sister Hyde Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires (I think this one is coming) Plus off topic a little from Amicus and Roger Corman: Tales from the Crypt, From Beyond the Grave and all the other Amicus anthologies Plus Masque of the Red Death from Roger Corman |

You missed off Woman in Black. Updated below
Based on what I've been reading on Hammer's FB page, they just bury thier head in the sands and refuse to address problems with thier releases. Doesn't bod well for any future problematic releases. |
