If the blu-rays are freshly remastered in a modern 4K workflow vs whatever ancient source they're using otherwise, that's still gonna be a big improvement (for titles like Ghostbusters anyway... Sony's been mastering new movies in 4K for years so it's just a sticker).

I'm all for better transfers. But a 4k label on a 1080p blu-ray is shenanigans.

Is it wrong to suspect that, like Superbit DVDs, these will be movie-only discs with no extras in order to maximize the space available for the transfer? I guess that makes sense to me...there really wouldn't seem to be any reason to put out new discs for the new movies or Taxi Driver if that isn't the case.

Of course. But if we get sparkling new transfers of some of my favourite movies out of it, then I'm good.

I'm looking forward to the new transfers of Ghostbusters and Spider-Man which were both sourced from 2K scans on their earlier Blu-Ray releases I believe. I wish Sony would redo The Life Of Brian too, the frozen grain on the current release is quite distracting.

Sony did a stunning job on The Holy Grail though.

if they got rid of that ugly grain (ever present on the current bluray) I'd be very very happy

There is a little * down in the bottom right corner, curious what it expands on, like, "Content is not actually displayed in 4K but thanks for your money anyways #YOLO"

I want to see a review and comparison on these. Should be interesting.

It begins. The first steps towards a new format, maybe? or just another Superbit type misstep.

I'm surprised they aren't remixing the sound to 7.1 ...

Here's what appears to be the official covers for these releases. Look pretty bad in my opinion.

I wonder if their Total Recall "mastered for 4K Ultra" has had the audio problems fixed.

Somehow I'm guessing not.

Are you toched in the head ? You fail to realize, that having just the movie on a dual-layer disc and using every inch of space on it, will IMPROVE the picture detail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IF these films were released (and if blu-ray had an uncompressed video format) they would require over 1tb of space, so ANY releases, no matter of its 1 or 2 hours, that just uses the disc for audio and video files and uses every inch of space will look better

[Show spoiler]

I'll probably only be picking up Ghostbusters and Spider-Man (2002). The current Blus for both films were sourced from 2K scans I believe, I think the rest of them already had 4K scans to begin with. So those two will probably be the only ones that have actually been upgraded. That 4K banner is hideous. I saw a price list for these discs on the hometheaterforum website, most of them are around the $20 mark. The Amazing Spider-Man is around $40 though.

I wish Sony would do films for this series that are in desperate need of remastering like The Life Of Brian and Bram Stoker's Dracula. Both films can look much better than they're current Blu-Ray transfers.

Only 3 of them come from new Masters:
- Glory
- Ghostbusters
- Spider-Man

the other releases are just useless as they already come from 4K masters...

Total Recall because of the low bitrate of the current BD is worth a look...

Other than Ghostbusters, I don't think any of that is officially confirmed, so buyer beware. It's quite possible Glory was a 4K scan off from an IP to begin with, and who knows what's going on with Spiderman.
