Someone contacted Koch (who worked with Filmedia) on the blu and they said that the Director's Cut is from a single source with an HD scan.

Ahhhh...yeah, you're screwed. haha

Though I actually just got an order from Amazon Germany that only took nine days from the time I placed the order. I noticed that it shipped via Royal Mail...rather than via DHL, as past Amazon Germany orders were. So who knows, maybe you'll luck out.

No man. The Director's Cut is pure HD. They did a new scan from original film elements.

I just watched the Director's Cut last night. I thought it looked pretty good. I thought that the S-Mart ending appeared after the credits on the Director's Cut, but it did not on the French BD. Perhaps I was confused or confused it with the International Cut.

The Director's Cut is my favorite cut by far, but I do so miss these quotes:

Quote:
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.
Quote:
Maybe. Just maybe my boys can protect the book. Yeah, and maybe I'm a Chinese jet pilot.
Has anyone ever attempted a fan edit to include them in the Director's Cut?

I do recall a fan edit (or at least a work in progress) that included those lines in the D-Cut. I don't so much miss the latter, but I do miss the first, and wish that Raimi had left it in. He even says that it's a better line, and that he only included the alternate because he was creating an "alternate" cut. But since it's a Director's Cut, he should have left in the line that he (and pretty much ALL fans) prefer.

I have the MGM R3 DVD of the DC, and the only place where the S-Mart ending can be found is in the "deleted scenes" menu. It's not integrated into the film at all.

The DC transfer is top notch. I just hope SHOUT! will acquire the rights to spread this in America.

The Director's Cut was the original version that Raimi delivered to Universal. Universal came back and said you need to cut 10 minutes and redo the ending. He did that and delivered the International Version. Universal basically took the film from Raimi and cut out even more.

Raimi's Director's Cut is the original finished version. It was not created after the fact like many extended cuts are today.

On the commentary, he says that he included the "I ain't that good" line simply because it was different from what was in the theatrical version...and he and Bruce also talk about how the quality varies a bit due to the fact that they had to hunt down various elements and splice them in. So yes, the Director's Cut that we see on this disc was created after the fact, and Raimi did include that line just because it was different, while acknowledging that the other line was better. This is all from his own mouth.

What's "better" between the two lines is largely subjective, I would have thought.

I suspect people prefer the line they are accustomed to.

Eh, most seem to agree that "Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun" is the better, funnier, more quotable line. I've never heard anyone quote the alternate...it's just kind of bland. And that's coming from someone who prefers pretty much everything else in the Director's Cut over the US Cut.

My favorite extended moment is when Ash first sees the three books in the cemetery and gets so angry at the wise man for not telling him about that.

I would have literally said the exact same thing that Ash says.

I did prefer the other line. Sounds more off the cuff, IMO. Plus I hadn't seen the US theatrical cut, until it popped up on Laserdisc, (the UK Guild Home Video release, was quite close the director's cut, so that's the one I'd watched the most),and that's one of the many changes that irked me, for some reason. Now I can take it, or leave it.

Perhaps... but then I'd suspect "most" would consist of a vocal majority comprising mainly of Americans who were naturally accustomed to the American theatrical version.

But I know how you feel. The absence of the "not nearly as nice as seeing him smash your face in" line from the COMMANDO director's cut sours me on it, somewhat.

Oh well, I guess that's what "fan edits" are for...

You're probably right, though I'm an American, and I actually prefer the "I ain't that good" line of the DC myself. Don't get me wrong, I also really like "The guy with the gun" line, but I think the DC line is just a better response to the manner in which Evil Ash keeps calling him a "Little Goody Two-Shoes"...not a big deal for me one way or another...
