I forgot this was released on HD DVD back in 2007. I wonder if Universal will use the same transfer? And it doesn't look like the extras we've had so far have been very good at all, so here's hoping that something new has been added...

Love Steve Martin, and I've been waiting for the films he did with Carl Reiner (all great, in my opinion) to come to Blu-ray.

It'll probably be the same transfer. It's not that impressive, but it's a low budget movie that's over 30 years old. The real problem I had with it was the Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 track that had new sound FX mixed in. I've seen the movie so many times I can't even keep count and when M. Emmet Walsh shoots at Steve Martin, it sounds completely different from the original mix. Hopefully Universal includes the mono track(or restores the original sound FX), but I'm not holding my breath.

Universal on several of their last HD-DVD's used the same masters for their Blu-Ray counterparts, so it would not surprise me in the least that they would simply recycle the same master and call it a day.

How go it will look regardless of price will depend on their overzealous use DNR and EE.

You're seriously passing on the movie because the slipcover has a border on it you don't like? Man, you guys are nitpicky to the extreme around here.

Just throw the slip away if it bothers you that much. The movie itself comes in a regular bluray case. Jeez...

And it IS confirmed, via the Liar Liar thread, that these are just slips. The actual covers are border-free.

so close yet so far!! The suspense of waiting for a review on this release is killing me! I really hope this is the definitive copy that this classic movie deserves!

I notice this and Liar Liar will have UV codes. I'm not used to seeing codes with old catalog titles. Do you think the studios will be giving us HD codes for "budget" titles or just SD versions?

It's probably just a re-release. It doesn't have any special or a collector edition banner on the cover.

It badly needs a new transfer, but not sure if a title like this will ever get one or not.
