Take a look here: http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ess=#vergleich and then decide for yourself. Note the colors are way better, and the aliasing issue is really not that big of a deal when seen in motion. |

Are the aliasing issues really bad? like to the point where it is throughout the whole film or just certain parts?

On my 2nd viewing of the disc I didn't pay attention to it anymore and agreed with myself that it is better then the US double feature. |

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I watch my movies on a 60" plasma, so my theory is that the smaller the screen is, the better for the aliasing issue being more forgettable. |

I don't agree with the germany edition looking better and red and orange faces i think you may need to adjust your tv colours , as for kickboxer it doesn't look bad it's just some scenes are really dirty, could use a cleaning.

You might not agree, but it's a fact that the US disc has blown out colors! There's absolutely nothing with my tv, it's been calibrated. Perhaps your tv is f'ed up. http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ess=#vergleich http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ess=#vergleich I rest my case ![]() EDIT: I have both release and I know what I'm talking about... No Al your case isnt rested infact i still find the us one better even with your caps. The germany one looks like a dead corpse , also the german version has heavy aliasing and smaller screen.

Do you have the German Blu-ray? If not, then don't judge it by screencaps. I merely posted the screencaps because of your stupid statement of you thinking there's nothing wrong the US disc's colors.
We've all established that it has aliasing ![]() |

The US version has more realistic colour timing imo.
Van damme is naturally a dark skinned guy and looks too pale in the German screen caps. |

Oh, and by "I'm out", does that mean for the rest of the hour like in the Bruce Lee thread? ![]() Last edited by madridista8700; 08-04-2013 at 08:40 PM. |

Both transfers are littered with a plethora of print anomalies. Although the Blu-ray seems to have a hell of a lot less. But I think I know why ... DNR ... which is easy to notice because of the lack of any grain in any scene throughout the whole movie. The DVD transfer features minor banding, a small amount of blocking in a few background scenes, excessive black crush. Whereas the blu-ray is perfect, NO banding or blocking and the black levels are quite normal. Overall colors are vastly superior on the blu-ray, and obviously the resolution is much higher, which gives greater detail. Even considering the excessive DNR application. Which I can only think was used to actually remove the grain structure and clean up the print. Which like I sad before was pretty bad on the DVD. Overall, I think for fans of this film you will be satisfied and while its not a perfect transfer by any means, its significantly superior to the HBO DVD. Especially when you combine it with an amazing soundtrack in DTS-HD Master 5.1. The soundtrack was a big plus for me moving from the DVD, which sounded horrible and muffled compared to the blu-ray. I would like to note I noticed no lip-sync issues with either the DVD or Blu-ray. However, Eric was dubbed over, which maybe could explain why people see issues here. Also, there are other scenes (Example: Mylee yelling at Kurt after the store robbery fight) where I can now see the actor is not talking for a few seconds, due to the high resolution of the blu-ray, but dialogue is coming out of the speakers. Kinda bad film making here. Honestly, if the filmmakers didn't care about this, dubbing issues were the least of the worries. Anyway, hope this helps anyone else still thinking about picking this up. ![]() |
