Powerhouse are re-re-releasing a standard edition next month, not that their limited edition every truly sold out.

Totally disagree. This is a super fun noir with excellent 3D throughout, except, ironically, the one sequence you mention, which is a bit of a letdown but not enough to derail the film. Very entertaining.

I have an odd take on that sequence. To me it was like being on set while the actors were performing in front of a rear-projection screen. Yes, it takes you “out of the film,” but that happens a lot to me with the vintage 3Ds. That’s why I don’t mind seeing wires or dolly tracks, etc. in shots. Kinda like being there during filming, which I find compelling for some weird reason.

To me, too much has been made of the non-3D rear image of the roller coaster --
It’s really only noticeable because it has been pointed out to us for so many years (and decades before I ever saw the movie).
The entire sequence is so much bigger than those few inserts that have the roller coaster in the background. It is an exciting fight scene.

I actually quite like this film. The 3D is genuinely fun, the dialogue fairly witty, and come on--it has Edmond O'Brien and Ted De Corsia in it! It may not be as classic a noir as Murder My Sweet or Out of the Past, but it's a fun, fast 70 minutes. I'm also not particularly bothered by the rear projection of the roller coaster. It looks less ridiculous than the rear projection in some of the Columbia 3D features!

And those Columbia rear projections look ridiculous even when seen in only 2D!

I still think the most hilarious is Dennis O'Keefe in front of the lava in Drums of Tahiti. Though the rear projection in Stranger Wore a Gun and The Nebraskan is pretty funny, too.

Especially the rocks and bushes on tracks that move out of sync and out of perspective with the camera pans in the rear projection.

It doesn't help that the rocks look like cardboard!

Just chiming in again to say that this is simply one of the best vintage 3-D films there is, with a great cast, a very entertaining (if highly improbable) B noir plot, and absolutely astoundingly strong and cleverly utilized monochrome 3-D cinematography. And what a beautiful restoration, which I first saw when Eddie Muller introduced it at his Noir City festival showing in Seattle sometime in 2014; we the audience loved the film and gave it a huge round of applause at its conclusion, much to the puzzlement of Eddie, who doesn’t have too high an opinion of it and made no bones about that. No doubt this restoration would have looked even better if the 3-DFA had gotten their hands on it, but even as is we’re very lucky it turned out as well as it did. This really needs a reissue; I feel sorry for the folks who missed out and hafta pay through the nose for it now.
