WB owns Flixster, which is why they recommend Flixster redemptions. I think at one point in the past WB codes were able to be redeemed on both VUDU and Flixster if you were fast enough, but that loophole has been closed for awhile.

when Ultraviolet was announced, wasn't it touted as the use anywhere you like with any UV app solution? I recall discussion of how UV was going to have a digital locker and it would be user's choice how, where and when to use it.
Maybe I misunderstood, but if it worked the way I understood it was to work, one wouldn't need to redeem with multiple services to watch on any UV participating service. I am not slamming Ultraviolet. The only reason I don't bother to redeem titles that aren't iTunes compatible is because of accessibility for the visually impaired. If even one UV compatible service would add accessibility, I would immediately start redeeming my UV codes. But I really am curious as to why the redeem once and access your digital locker from any service feature never worked out. Did the implementation not work out as originally expected, or did i just misunderstand how it was supposed to work from the beginning? This has been bugging me for a long time now, so I finally decided to ask. Thanks, chris |

It works as you described. Just the entryway into the UV locker is limited by some studios. For example, a UV code might be redeemable only on Flixster or SONY site, but then the movie/show can be accessed from any of the providers. For some movies/shows which are not UV compatible, you might get the content only from the provider you redeem it with - but that is outside the realm of this discussion I suppose. For HBO shows, they have multiple redemptions. Vudu does not have the UV rights so you redeem on Vudu for the copy there and then on Flixster to get them on other UV provider sites. |

Most of the time, when you redeem a UV code or purchase a UV movie, the movie automatically transfers to the other services and you can watch that movie on any of the services without issue. In addition to that, some of the services offer movies for purchase that are not UV compatible. Unless they became UV compatible in the future, you're restricted to watching those movies on the service you purchased them from. And some studios such as Disney and HBO have codes that you can redeem on one or more UV services but they're not UV and won't automatically transfer to the other services. So, you can look at it as there being two types of movies: 1. UV movies = transfer to the other services 2. Non-UV movies = restricted to the service they were redeemed or purchased on |

OK, thanks. Makes much more sense after these replies. I knew about the movies for purchase, but didn't know they were service specific. It makes sense, though. Now, if only either Apple would join UV or one of the services would make their app accessible. I deally, for me, Flixter or Vudu would put out an app for the Apple TV, which is very low vision friendly, I would be able to use all of my codes. Since some codes expire, I am thinking about using my OCR software to scan in all of my UV codes and then getting some sighted help to enter them in the appropriate sites so they will be there when and if accessibility comes about. I could just try to get help to read and enter the codes, but if I did half the work, I would probably get help much faster.
Thanks for the explanations. UV redemption now makes much more sense. Regards, Chris Quote:

Not sure if this is the place this should be posted... But... This bothers me...
https://www.blu-ray.com/uv/ Why is this site claiming that Disney has UV when in fact there is not a single movie offered in UV from Disney? Disney offers a digital copy. Vudu, iTunes, Amazon, or Google Play. There is no such thing as a Disney UV. I feel that having this on your site is misdirecting people into thinking, selling, asking for Disney UV, when it does not exist! |

If you want three different people to be able to redeem the three portions of a HBO code (Vudu, Flixster, and iTunes), in which order should the code's portions be redeemed? And the code must be put directly into the Vudu/Flixster/iTunes sites/apps, not redeemed via the hbodigitalhd.com site, right?

You're not supposed to be able to redeem the code in Vudu and then use digitalcopyplus.com to redeem the movie directly in iTunes. Disney doesn't allow that. The only way to double dip is with DMA. Last edited by Evil; 08-10-2014 at 01:52 AM. |
