Hey guys:

On the UK BD, is the audio description on the UK BD spoken by an UK speaker or an American speaker? Are the subtitles in UK English, or do they use American spellings?

(I altered and re-posted this for more visibility)

Audio descriptive track has an American speaker, as with the subtitles i haven't seen the film as of yet so don't want to ruin it by flicking through scenes.

The disc is B locked as well by the way.

Watched this last night. The action was intense. I didn't notice any scenes that looked like they had been cut, but it's hard to tell.

Was the theatrical version shown in the UK and Ireland different to other countries?

Thanks.

So (in all likelihood) there goes my theory that Fox US wanted different audio description to what the UK got.

Subject to debate. The BBFC site claims they advised pre-cuts to reduce violence, which could be anything between footage being cut, to sound effects being reduced and blood on screen being digitally removed. But the director swears blind the UK version hasn't had an inch taken out anywhere and is the same as every other version. So this either means all versions are the same and the BBFC advised cuts are issued out everywhere, or the director is lying.

(It's worth mentioning, that when something is cut specifically for the UK only, the BBFC site highlights it differently).

The scene where you first really see his henchman at work, I thought in the cinema the blood was lacking.

They tend not to use audio descriptive tracks in the US, maybe there's a specific reason for wanting to have audio description in the UK, Ireland, Australia and/or New Zealand, and they've shared to the disc to cut costs?

So, the UK Blu-ray has the aforementioned "bum" joke and not cut? That's good to know. Although I'll probably go for another edition of the movie since I'd rather have one with Japanese options.

There's no commentary on the US release either, so I wouldn't infer anything from that.

Some people get so worked up whenever the BBFC mention pre-cuts but, the majority of the time, the above is exactly what's happened. I believe it's because the BBFC are prepared to offer advice about potential ratings based on unfinished cuts, while the MPAA won't.

I feel kinda sorry for those people who cause themselves stress worrying about these things. In this case especially, with Vaughn saying the UK cut wasn't any different, why would he lie?

They won't officially offer this advice, but should somebody senior from of the major donating studios ask, that information suddenly becomes available...

No one is saying he did, but why? Why is because he has a film to sell.

It could be argued that contractually he couldn't tell us it was cut, even if he wanted to. Depends on how seriously Fox takes his 'non-disparagement' clause...

Fox, Paramount, Sony, Universal and WB all use audio description on all Blu-ray new releases (usually not catalogue titles) in the US. The difference is that the UK also has independent labels (2entertain, Lionsgate, Studiocanal) who sometimes use audio description as well.
