Here I am watching The Matrix Reloaded on AMC and thinking, This would be awesome in 3D. The whole trilogy would be. I'm one of a few that like the movies.

Convert LOTR trilogy for SURE.

Convert Hard Rain (to make the rain chubby...LOL....bowfinger reference kids)

Convert any mainstream title with awesome cleavage

Convert any porn with awesome cleavage

Convert Waterworld to make the movie have a supreme redemption via re-release.

Convert epic war movies (eg Saving Private Ryan, first off)

Convert Apollo 13 (so they can stop bouncing off the walls in 3D and figure out how to stay alive...)

Convert Zoolander for the Lulz (who am i ? You are in 3frickenD buddy)

Convert Back to the Future trilogy because it will save the clock tower...(FROM 2D)

Convert all 3 jurassic park films...because 4 WILL be shot in native 3D and the first ones need love!!
I honestly don't know if Saving Private Ryan would work. With all of the shakey cam work I would get sick if it was in 3D.

I was thinking about this watching South Park. I would love to see future episodes of this show in 3D.

Are you crazy Tommyboy? Everyone likes the Matrix!
I hear, even though the story is over, they are sad it was never made in 3D, so a forth is on the way.

I hated 2 when I saw it in cinemas. I was int drugs back in those days and that must have been the cause of my deluded senses... Now I think they get better and better! I watch the trilogy all the time, and agree a 3D conversion would be boss!

I would LOVE to see that. Probably a perfect show for 3D. They're going back to the original files to remaster them in HD and at some point in the future I can see them doing it for 3D. But yeah, it should definitely go 3D!!!

If this is not right for this forum, I apologize, or if its controversial, also, I apologize, but I think its a very ripe topic for a thread for those who want to enjoy a solid 3D experience with currently owned blu rays which were not originally filmed with the 3D experience clearly in mind (obviously, generally you will gain mostly depth than gimmicks with 2D designed programming, but, sometimes, as with my favorites discussed below, you may gain more than you thought you bargained for..)

Most, if not all, 3DTVs seem to have a 2D to 3D functionality and, depending on the source content, your mileage may vary on the quality of the 3D viewing experience. Obviously, this is something of an artificial creation, but I am of the opinion that a dedicated thread to helping users best gauge which films WILL look good in 3D, though not originally filmed this way, can only be good for the betterment of the 3DTV community at large.

In my experience, so far, movies which are featured in areas which are almost 2D in their construction as a concept, such as stages (i.e., Rent Live on Broadway) or were designed with 2D clearly in mind (classic Disney animation) will rarely gain much with the 3D effect and aren't remotely worth giving the feature a go. Also, generally, black and white movies do not gain a whole lot either in 3D, with few exceptions (my inclination is that a film with a lot of depth of field like Fellini's 8 1/2 might look great in 3D)

On the other hand, movies which feature very vibrant colors and/or are full of depth and were originally captured on film or on an HD camera will do very very well.

So, those are my first impressions. Please chime in with yours. Meanwhile, I would like to nominate my two best 2D-3D blu ray experiences, so far, by major category:

Film
The Truman Show- lots of color and depth. Picture is almost always very bright. It really pops when converted to 3D.

Television
Battlestar Galactica- Yes, you might not think with all the darkness on the show it would do well in 3D. Actually, through the miniseries anyway, when converted on my Samsung Plasma into 3D, it looks like it was originally shot in 3D. The star-scapes are stunning, lots of depth aboard the ship corridors and lots of large ship based artifacts which seem to pop off the screen.
Watching Battlestar Galactica regular DVDs using PowerDVD 11 Ultra in 3D conversion impress me with the picture quality. In a few days I hope to receive from Amazon.com my LG WH10SL30 Internal Blu-Ray 10x Writer. Hopefully I will be able to view 3D Blu-Ray discs on it.

I'm not too crazy about 2D to 3D. For some reason it bothers my eyes, whereas I've never experienced irritation from real 3D content. But I must say that watching the latest turtles film (animated one) with the converter, was quite enjoyable!

I'm not quite sure how 2d->3d works or how the TV is smart enough to convert it (seems to be something similar to those old toy glasses that separated dark blues from bright oranges)--
But however it works, if you've ever been curious to see what the original "Willy Wonka" would look like in 3D, it survives TV-conversion better than most.

(Ironically, I'd tried watching some of the 2D versions of 80's 3D titles converted, hoping that the low lighting, muddy prints and odd deep-camera focuses would translate to modern day conversion.
But no, sadly, even 21st-century artifice did not help restore "Jaws 3-D" or "Metalstorm: the Destruction of Jared-Syn". )

If anyone has the Season One DVD release of Covert Affairs and wouldn't mind commenting on how well it converts, I would be very curious to hear the results. I can't wait to get a 3D display and try this out!

Yeah, a conversion of the Matrix trilogy would be awesome! I'd love to see my other all time classic favorite series converted too- the Alien movies. And fingers crossed that Pixar gets on the bandwagon and sends us 3D versions of Wall-E, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo. Apparently conversion of the Star Wars movies is in the works, that rounds out my wish list

There was an earlier discussion as to whether or not post production 3D was really worth it (Canada and someone who seemed to understand the details of how the conversion worked). While I'm sure there is a difference between movies shot in 3D and those converted (Avatar and Clash of the Titans being extreme examples....the latter 3D conversion being SO bad in the theatre that I don't have any interest in buying it), I'm not convinced 3D conversion can't be done well. I find it very, very hard to believe that someone like James Cameron is going to $#!^ where he drinks by doing a half @$$ed conversion of Titanic...probably ditto for George Lucas wrt Star Wars. Whether or not it's financially feasible is another matter.

Being lazy, I'm wondering if someone can point me in the proper direction to find out why the conversions may or may not work. In any case, it would appear to be a painstaking process. I've had more "training" in physics, biology, math, and so forth than I care to remember so I'm not really concerned about the technical details. If there's someone out there who understands the process, maybe you can save me from having to muck through a lot of BS. I could ask James Cameron, but don't think I could afford his hourly rate.

I would love to see this movie in 3D Blu ray. I loved this movie on the big screen and even imported the UK Blu ray version when HD DVD held it hostage. I would easily add the 3D version to my collection.

United Kingdom Disney's 3D Conversions - General Discussion

If you had a say in what 2D Disney cartoon would be converted into 3D, what would it be? So far the 'House of the Mouse' have transformed 'Beauty and the Beast', 'The Lion King' and 'Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas'(to give it its full title) into 3D and I've been thinking of others that could stand the same sort of conversion.

So here's my two cents(or pennies as I live in the UK) worth.

'The Little Mermaid'(of course)
and, 'Aladdin'.

Both of them would make great 3D(as long as care was taken)--especially the magic carpet rides in the latter 'Aladdin'. And what about the climax of 'The Little Mermaid'? With all those ships being dragged up from the bottom. Now that would truly be awesome!

Let me know what you guys think.

I'd pay to take a Magic Carpet ride in 3D.

I'm actually fine with any of the 90's Disney flicks onward, where they can get the original producers/directors onboard for the conversion process as they've done with Beauty and the Beast and Lion King. Earlier Disney stuff not intended for 3D should be hands off. I don't want them messing with Sleeping Beauty, for instance.
