I just finished Avatar on bd and loved it.

Besides video problems in S2/S3 in this show, what are the main problems most have with the show (content wise)?

I think they just didn’t like that it wasn’t Avatar. At least from what I’ve seen, most of the complaints come from people who didn’t like that it was a new cast, new locales, etc. and rather than embracing what makes Legend of Korra different and unique, they shunned it.

You’ll probably love it though since, like me, you’ll be watching it for the first time right after watching Avatar for the first time.

Korra was every bit as great as Avatar, and better in some respects, because it really hit the ground running instead of the "kiddie show" tone of the first half of Book One of Avatar (that show didn't start firing on all cylinders until Book Two).

Plus, Korra! Asami!

I just finished watching Legend of Korra on bluray.
Forgive my spelling on some names lol

MEGA SPOILERS for the whole show!

Pros:

The technical aspects (Art/animation/music ) have matured significantly since Avatar.

The bending scenes were dynamic and better too.

The characters for the most part were likable. I even appreciated the characters arcs for some of the secondary or tertiary characters like Varrick, Jinora.

Having about 13 episodes per season made it a more tight viewing experience with less filler.

Korra's PTSD/ and rehablitation arc in Season 4 was done well.

Cons

I dont feel that the main 4 characters had as much chemistry or emotional bond as Aang/Katarra/Sokka/Toph. Whether it was due to plot and or circumstances.(I felt like the main characters were apart half the time unlike a majority of ATLA episodes.

We see old Katarra, Zuko, and Toph sparingly helping out the new kids. However, outside of a brief flashback in Season1, we have no idea if Sokka is alive n the current time or if he any potential children. Were the creators rushed or do they not care about him? Did I miss something?

Korra in S2 is a bit annoying. She keeps accusing Mako of being on the opposite side of her. The breakup and back and forth with Mako and the girls was almost borderline sketchy. I know these are young folks in their teens/20's but it was a bit melodramatic.

I think Asami was handled the best in Season 1 with her father's Equalist agenda. But many parts in S2 and S4 just had her doing tech stuff or being in the background during big battles. I was secretly hoping she would get Airbending in season 3 instead of Bhumi. While it was nice to see Asami/Korra hinted at in the end, being on Nick hindered it.

I think the show has outgrown Nickelodeon.
I dont want MK style action and for Korra to act like an Orange is the new Black character in the shower towards Asami, but I feel that a show as mature as this should kinda move into Pg-13 area and should have ended with Asami and Korra kissing.

More character development for Kuvira (only at her defeat in the last episode do we get some quick dialogue but it its not enough) Also, Unalak needed some more. Also, it would have been nice to see Amon /Tarnok cliffhanger resolved.

Rating by Season/book

S1 - 8/10
S2 - 7/10
S3 - 8.5/10
S4 7/10

**Overall - 7.5/10**

Avatar - 8.5/10

Aang is on all of the Avatar Steelbooks. Guess they're keeping it consistent.

I wonder if the "fixed" the discs so they're 1080p instead of 1080i. Still not worth $100 imo. Korra is a show I had to struggle to get through, despite ATLA being among my favorite animated series of all time.

Earlier today I finished The Ultimate Aang & Korra Blu-ray Collection, that I blind bought in late March. I can easily and without hyperbole say it was one of the best blind buys I've ever purchased.

Even though I'm old enough to have watched both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra when they originally aired (not to mention the availability of the various physical releases that both series have had over the years, along with the availability of the shows on streaming), for some reason I never bothered to watch either series until now. I can't believe what I was missing!

I really enjoyed The Legend of Korra, even the episodes that some fans might consider to be lesser episodes. I wish I could go back and watch the series again for the first time. For me LoK was a 9.5/10 (ATLA was a 10/10).

My top five favorite characters from LoK (in no particular order) are:

1. Tenzin
2. Korra
3. Bolin
4. Varrick
5. Meelo
